5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortably Numb - A History of, January 18, 2007
This review is from: Comfortably Numb-A History of "The Wall" - Pink Floyd 1978-1981 (Hardcover)
I've read many books on the Floyd and several on other Rock 'N Roll fronts, but I have not encountered anything quite to the level that this brings. While it delves into a Single Album by a Single Band you might think, "Why would I even care to read a 288 page book about one album?" Well it is much more than that. Strip the layers upon layers about the album and you have the story of Pink Floyd during these all important and traumatic years for the band itself. I was impressed to learn that Richard Wright had much more to do with the album than was previously known! In fact the band had much more to do with the overall playing on the album than was previously thought!

Vernon Fitch and Richard Mahon take you through a journey from the moment the concept of the Wall was formulated by Roger Waters to the dramatic climax in 1981 when the last concert was played. Couple that with the hundreds of amazing photos generously displayed on every page makes this a truly worth while endeavor. In my mind, it's an encyclopedia with a story line, a plot that was expertly told.

How many other books can claim the benefit AND blessings of Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Gerald Scarfe, Bob Ezrin, James Guthrie, Phil Taylor et al? I think I can count them with one or two fingers. For a book not written by a band member, it may as well have been, that's how in depth the research and thought went into it. I can not say enough about it. Reading this book gives anyone a better understanding of one of rock's conceptual masterpieces. [.....]

A truly must own for any Floyd enthusiast!
