5.0 out of 5 stars The Comfy Cone
My dog had surgery that was going to require almost a month of the use of an e-collar while the leg healed. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good product, but the sizes are odd....
Great product, but the sizes are really odd. I tried the small and it was too small for a 10 lb dog, so I ordered the medium which looks like it's more for a 50 lb dog. There isn't anything in the middle. It would have been great, but the types of dogs that it will fit (according to the product description) did not seem accurate. 5.0 out of 5 stars The Comfy Cone, October 7, 2008

My dog had surgery that was going to require almost a month of the use of an e-collar while the leg healed. The first few days I tried to use the "more comfortable than the old ones" e-collar that the vet provided. My dog was more distressed by the e-collar than the surgery because it was so big and had no flexibility at all. Also, I think because it is see through it confuses the dogs more because they can see things but then bump into them!

I found the Comfy Cone online in an article by someone whose dog had the same surgery and the same issues with the vet-provided e-collar. From the moment I put it on my dog he has been GREAT with it! The cone is not as big as a plastic e-collar and I was afraid my dog may still be able to get to his leg, but he never tried and it is big enough to make attempts very difficult. The cone is very flexible so he can sleep in total comfort. Even though he does not have the ability to see out of the sides like the plastic, I think it is better because they know their limits in these vs. the plastic where they can see around but then bump into everything and get confused.

This collar is the best thing going. If your dog needs to be in an e-collar for an extended amount of time I would definitely get this collar. I also like that it does not get all nasty like the plastic ones. It can fold back while they eat and it is easy to wipe down. I will have this forever for any future use with either of my dogs. I wish more vets recommended these collars they really are the best!!! And the price just can't be beat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally Recommended, April 19, 2009
I'd recommend this cone before anything else. Our dog (laborador)can actually see around this flexible cone. You can't beat it for the price. You can wash it when it gets dirty and it seems to keep it's shape. Our dog hasn't been able to get it off or reach his hot spots. We regret spending $50 on an inflatable, blue round tube that makes him look like he's ready to dive off into the lake. Not to mention he was able to get to his hot spots with this blue tube. The comfy cone is definitely the way to go.

Thankfully, I purchased through Amazon, so the return was easy. I just wish they had a size in between the small and the medium for a 10 - 20 lb dog.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dog can still reach his hind end and ripped out stitches, October 28, 2009
Pass on this product. Not only isn't it more expensive than the old fashion cones, but it doesn't work as well. I bought two of these thinking I was doing my dogs a favor only to go out and purchase the old hard plastic cones.

The comfy cone can flip back exposing the dogs face. This happened to one of my dogs twice and she rubbed her face so hard against things that my Border Collie no longer looked like herself, but resembled that of a balding pit bull...so much swelling!

They can also reach their entire body while the cone is flipped. My other dog, a lab/Australian Cattle dog can reach his front paws, ankles and the entire back half of his body. He ripped out his stitches wasting $250.

Pass, pass, pass on this product!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Comfy, but hard to keep clean., November 14, 2010

This review is from: Comfy Cone Small Pet E-Collar, Black (Misc.)
My large dog was really struggling with wearing the vet-provided hard plastic cone collar after eye surgery. After swapping the plastic cone out for the large comfy cone, she adapted to it with much less distress. Bumping into the wall or doorjamb with the hard collar was a real "jolt" to the dog; with the comfy cone it's more like bouncing off a padded obstacle.

Couple of cons to consider though:

1. the Comfy Cone can be (accidentally or on purpose) bent back by the dog. The cone is designed to bend back for easier eating which is good, but not so good if the dog can do it by himself.

2. Although the large cone is designated as the same size as the hard vet cone, it is not as 'long' in the face. If you have a dog with a very long snout this probably would not be a good fit.

3. There are velcro strips around the cone which allow for easy on/off. However, the velcro also picks up grass and sticks from the yard, dog hair, and other lint. I tried cleaning the strips with pet hair rollers and even strapping tape but all the lint and hair does not come out easily.

Overall it's a 4 because it is COMFY and the dog will wear it without griping at me!

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than plastic!, December 1, 2010

I've always used those plastic e-collars after my dogs have had surgery. My older dog reacted very poorly to wearing one - she hardly moved around the house and banged up everything in her path when she did. I decided to try something different when my puppy was spayed recently. I got this collar in X-large because of her snout (German Shepherd). Her neck was smaller than the measurements but the velcro closure made the neck fit. The animal hospital staff put it on her immediately after surgery and used a long piece of gauze to keep it in place. They thought the collar worked well. My dog slept comfortably with it on. It was easy to fold the edge of the collar back when she walked around the house and yard, as well as when eating. I highly recommend this collar. It's a great investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars As cones go, anyway, this one gets five stars, November 19, 2010
Granted, cones are a drag no matter what. But my guy came home with one of those white cones from the doctor's office and it was absolutely horrid! Every time he bumped into anything he got paranoid and just stood there with his head down. He could not get comfortable, and the complaints go on.

Somebody told me about the Comfy Cone and I checked out. Got one right away and, while he is still not loving the cone (who would?), this one is so much less traumatic. Being soft and padded, when he does run into something it's not a jolt plus it is pliable enough to conform. No more standing with his head down wondering what he did to deserve this.

My only bummer was that I needed it NOW so we paid much more at the Petco store. My advice is to anticipate the need if you have somebody scheduled for surgery and get it here for quite a bit less and free shipping!

The sizing seems accurate. My puppy is a 4 month old Golden Retriever weighing close to 30lbs and the medium was a good choice. I also like that it has tabs through which you run his collar and it makes for a better stability. Of course it is a bit wonky and it turns but it is still a thousand times better than the plastic ones, and it is more reliable than the doughnuts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product Even for Non-Sick Dogs, September 26, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Our dog is obsessed with licking her feet. She's had several vets examine her feet. No sores, no allergies, no abrasions, no toenail problems, no ear problems. She has a busy life but still spends time licking her feet when she has "down time". We could not take the noise and the obsession anymore so put on the comfy cone when we are home supervising her. It works like a charm. No more feet licking and she sleeps easily with it on - strangely enough, it even soothes her to sleep with its presence. The black cone blends nicely with her black hair and she looks like she's wearing a prarie bonnet, so it looks cute, not something to feel bad about.

I shied away from a collar for a long time because I only had seen the hard plastic ones. The comfy cone, is indeed what it claims to be "comfy."

4.0 out of 5 stars Speedy and convenient, December 5, 2010

This product is well made and performs as advertised. I found the sizing system to be somewhat confusing since to me, the circumference of the neck is more critical than the neck-to-nose dimension. I had to visit the mfr's web site to verify size.

We use this collar primarily to help control compulsive licking. To be as kind as possible to our dog, we do not leave the collar on for extended periods. The velcro closure makes it a snap to apply or remove the collar literally in 5 seconds. This feature alone makes it infinitely better than 1-piece plastic collars.
