5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding DC Golden Age Greatness, August 26, 2008
This review is from: The Comic Cavalcade Archives, Vol. 1 (DC Archive Editions) (Hardcover)
This is the first of a projected nine volume series containing all twentynine issues of the run of Comic Cavalcade that comprise the superhero portion of the run of the comicbook before it was given over to DC's funny animal line. The first three giant-sized issues of the run are in this volume. Comic Cavalcade was envisioned as the All American comics division's version of mighty World's Finest, which featured Superman, Batman, Green Arrow, and other stars from the DC division. So the concept dictated that the originally quarterly comic would feature one adventure each issue of the Flash, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman as well as other stars such as Wildcat, the Black Pirate and, much later, Johnny Peril. The three stars also were featured in their own solo books, the Justice Society of America in All-Star Comics, and their own monthly magazines in which they originated: the Flash in Flash Comics{ his solo book was All-Flash}, Green Lantern in All-American Comics, and Wonder Woman in Sensation Comics{ although her feature technically originated as a backup story in All-Star
Comics}. This is a great sampling of Golden Age stories and an auspicious start to the series.
