Cut Off At The Hips!, November 9, 2004

This review is from: DC Comics Wonder Woman Bust Bank (Toy)
I just received the Wonder Woman Bust Bank from Amazon.com and must admit I'm a bit disappointed. While the sculpt remains pretty much as shown (very nice, actually), the Amazon.com description and accompanying picture do not accurately depict the final product.
First off, the actual dimensions of the bank are 5" x 4.5" x 7.5" (L x W x H). So, rather than ending at about mid-thigh as shown, the bank is actually cut off right at the hips. WW has also now acquired a reddish-brown cape or blanket or something that is wrapped around her back and hips. Apparently it's supposed to be hanging off the bottom of her arms, or maybe it's just something that got caught in all those flowing ebony locks. Overall, these changes result in a much less dramatic look (OK, I confess - she's also not nearly as sexy as shown).
My overall impression is someone at Monogram Masterworks took one look at the figure as shown on Amazon.com and said "Whoa guys, too much skin and too many curves! Got to tone that down, make it a lot blander."
The paint colors are also a bit off. Instead of the vibrant metallic gold breastplate/girdle and silver bracelets shown, these portions of the figure are painted with a flat, very dark bronze and flat silver.
It's not that this is a bad figure of WW; she's just not quite what you're led to expect.

Not What I Expected., November 19, 2004

As the previous reviewer stated, it's okay but not what I expected. I agree that someone must have found it necessary to tone the sculpt down. I really can't figure out what they added to the back...Is it a cape? It just looks odd. I will add that I would have given this 4 stars if the photo had been accurate. I do think that anyone who likes Wonder Woman will like this bank, but keep in mind the actual piece is quite a bit different.
I know in the future I won't order products from Monogram until I've seen reviews. The sad thing is this new sculpt would be fine on its own, but considering what they were promising, I'm disappointed.

Personally, I LOVE this bust bank. It is MUCH better looking and more detailed than the box shows. As a WW fan, I was delighted., April 29, 2011

The reviews on here seem to be a general concensus that it's just a ho hum product. Honestly, I have no idea why. I'm NOT one of those hard core Wonder Woman fans who just buys anything she's on. There a VAST many toys and other products centered around Wonder Woman that I just won't touch, collectible or not. For instance, a lot of the older Golden Age figures or statues, that depict Wonder Woman as she first looked... I don't care HOW valuable those products are, I won't buy them because I don't care for the look. When I saw this first on Amazon, I was NOT happy, and I didn't order it. The picture is AWFUL. But not long after that, I stumbled upon this thing in a comic shop. They had her out of the box so you could see just how good she looks. And it was AMAZING. Her face looks WAY better than on the box picture, and I don't even have words for the bust's actual bust... LOL It's almost obscene. LOL Yes, the entire product is just cheap plastic with cheap paint. But for what it is, it came out great. As another reviewer said, it's still a MUCH more interesting way to store your change than a pig. LOL
I bought that first one of mine at the comic shop for $20. I immediately came home and ordered two more from Amazon, intending to give them to other WW fans in my life. When they got here, despite that awful picture, they looked just as good as the other one I'd bought. At that time, Amazon was selling them for $8. I wish I'd bought more, because these suckers now go for $70 to $100 bucks. I never did give those other two to friends, and other friends actually got me a few more. LOL Since I had so many of them, I had an artist friend paint one to be African American, since I've always wanted a black Wonder Woman. If I can get someone to take a picture of how well that came out, I will post it. Despite the numerous extras, I only keep 3 out, one for each Wonder Woman collectible shelf. LOL Seriously, the figure is voluptuous, brightly painted, and pretty darn good for cheap plastic. Yes, there is some sort of... cape I'd assume, that appears to be around the lower part of her hips and lower back. No idea what it is. But it does NOT detract from the look of the piece. Now, I respect the other reviewers' points of view, but that's just my two cents. I love mine, and keep them on display at all times. If you're an avid Wonder Woman collector, this is actually a great piece. Give it a shot, and I don't think you'll regret it.
Thank you for your time folks.
Sincerely, R.A. McDowell
