2.0 out of 5 stars The effort is/was there but............, April 12, 2008
This review is from: Comin' At Ya (Audio CD)
I was sadly disappointed when I first heard the album. My expectations weren't that high to begin with but, I'm a bassist and always try to give props and support my fellow musicians, but ....... I think they are talented musicians and could/can produce good quality music but I just think the arraingements may not have been right on point, or the music was written too monotone. I believe Kenny can play, he's okay, he's good, but to produce a palatable song you can't have every instrument playing the melody, except for the bass on every song and think that you're going to keep listeners interested. You have to mix it up a little bit, give the other musicians some room to move and groove, allow them to solo once in a while. Hearing the keys, guitar, sax play the same notes together on every song just doesn't work for me, but I give them credit for trying, and I sort of see what they're trying to do but, they need some more work on flexibility. I'm glad it was the price it was when I purchased it, otherwise I'd be upset and want to return it. I can play that mess myself. I want to hear something catchy or hard for me to play. Neither happens here for me.
