Book Description

August 1999

Ever wonder when Jesus will return for His church? Will it be soon? And what about the Tribulation--will Christians live through it or be raptured before it? Is the Millennium a literal one-thousand-year period? What do these and many more terms mean? How do they figure into Christ's Second Coming? What can Christians expect in the days ahead?

Jerry Newcombe examines and explains the issues surrounding the Second Coming, clearly presenting the various points of view. Giving examples from the recent and distant past, he points out the folly of trying to set the date for Jesus' return. Rather, he encourages Christians to focus on our common hope in Christ rather than bicker over the hows and whens of our future. His passionate plea to be ready for Christ's coming will have you saying, "Even so come, Lord Jesus."

"All of history is moving toward its inevitable climax--the return of Christ. How will it be? How will He come? Well-meaning Christians answer that question different ways. To get a good understanding of those various opinions and the consequences that flow out of those opinions, I recommend you read Coming Again." - D. James Kennedy, Ph.D., Senior Minister - Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to Eschatological views, May 27, 2011
This review is from: Coming Again: But When? a Fascinating Look at the Beliefs Surrounding Christ's Return (Paperback)
The author is clear about his view, but presents the other views (in their basic form) scholastically and without a noticeable amount of partiality. Most books concerning end times are written as an apology or in persuasive style, but this one is nearly textbook style and very informative. No matter what your position on the subject, you will have a better understanding of the other views.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent material, April 21, 2011
This review is from: Coming Again: But When? a Fascinating Look at the Beliefs Surrounding Christ's Return (Paperback)
Dr. Jerry Newcombe, co-author of "George Washington's Sacred Fire" and long-time researcher for Dr. D. James Kennedy, nails down the tricky topic of eschatology in this fascinating book. Without judgement, he lays down the major Christian viewpoints and meticulously backs his writing with quote after quote from theologians and authors ranging from Hal Lindsay to R.C. Sproul. Postmillenialism, Amillenialism, Premillenialism, Chiliasm, Preterism... all are covered and defended by their proponents.

If you're the typical "Left Behind" believer, some of the alternative viewpoints may shock you. As we near 2012, "Coming Again" is hard to beat as an end-of-the-world read - I've enjoyed revisiting my copy.
