Belgian Jonathan Vandenbroeck sinks confessional, and somewhat preachy folk songs (in English), and does so very well. He's very popular at home, due to his 2006 European hit "You Don't Know", but this is apparently the first CD generally available in the US, at least on Azon (if anyone would actually pay their stupid price).
Personally, this music doesn't reach me, I find it too country and way too personal and smaltzy by half. But you have to recognize the talent, the songwriting and performance are very good. If you like Steve Bertrand, Ryan Ferguson or Steven Lindsay, then you'll enjoy, check it out. At least your friends won't have it!
