Grade 1-2?As a parody of the popular folk song, this version presents a boisterous family celebration that is a little too overzealous for emerging readers to comprehend. Few will be able to handle vocabulary such as "do-si-do," "rhinestones," "razzle-dazzle," "Hallelujah," "piccalilli," or "cavorting." The print, however, is large and well suited to early readers. Barnes-Murphy's illustrations are delightful in their zany depiction of the people and animals. All of the characters look jubilant and somewhat silly. But in terms of the text itself, Robert Quackenbush's She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain (HarperCollins, 1973; o.p.) or Tom and Debbie Birdseye's She'll Be Coming 'Round the Mountain (Holiday, 1994) make more satisfying read-alouds.?Sharron McElmeel, Cedar Rapids Community Schools, IA

My 4 year old son and 1 year old daughter absolutely adore this book. The baby hands it to me and starts dancing before I even get the first page turned. It's lots of fun to sing and has become a family staple.
