5.0 out of 5 stars Prescient Insights-- How World Government Will Arise, October 21, 2009
This review is from: The Coming Century of Commonism: The Beauty & the Beast of Global Governance (Paperback)
A Review of
Philip C. Bom, The Coming Century of Commonism:
The Beauty & the Beast of Global Governance
(Paperback - Mar 1992)
by

John C. Munday

This book details the movements and developments that will usher in world government. It will appear to be democratic, but will stifle individuality. It will appear to respect national sovereignty, but will involve a transformed nation-state and international complex, going beyond the present United Nations. It will build on both the Green movement and transformative global spirituality.

Dr. Bom sifted through mountains of documents, press releases, official government statements, speeches, books, and magazine articles. With insight and foresight, he discerned the major themes that would metamorphose global society in the 21st Century. He foresaw the ultimate outcome of transformational developments in the former Soviet Union under Gorbachev, of the rising integration in Western Europe, and of the coming North American Union uniting Canada, the United States and Mexico. Recognizing the powers promoting environmentalism, combined with peace advocates pursuing commonalities across religious communities, he predicted a rising spiritual-political ecumenism, resulting in a socialist humanism enveloping all the peoples of the world.

Even in 1992 when the 393-page book was published, Dr. Bom saw how the Green movement had sprouted in manifold ways across Canada. Now, nearly 20 years later, as he predicted, it has permeated the global politic and spawned the sustainable development juggernaut.

The agents of the global governance system will be not only the nations of the U.N. (166 when he wrote, and now 192). They will also include the more than 18,000 non-governmental organizations (NGOs), whose efforts will, in effect, "help build the global tower of world peace." Dr. Bom goes on to say, "This new order will also be total in the sense that it appeals to the minds and hearts of all peoples and nations to surrender their souls and bodies to the world-wide brainstorming sessions of the cultural revolution in order to change man - his values, outlook, attitudes, and character." All this is summed up by the label of "apocalyptic beasts of commonism" - not Soviet-style communism, but a softer and appealing commonism. "It will be totalitarian because global governance and global civil religion seek to have dominion over the whole earth. In short, it seeks the building of a whole new man for a whole new world."

While some may see these developments as the "Salvation of Mankind," Dr. Bom foresees calamity for the human race under this century of global commonism. Only a renewed devotion to Christ can avert it. It appears, however, that ultimately the correction of God's judgments will be necessary, as He intervenes in human affairs to bring about an "eternal and self-sustaining world government."
