4.0 out of 5 stars Sink and Rise with the darkness, March 9, 2006
This review is from: the Coming of Chaos (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of Black metal and Sacramentum for many years now and can honestly say that they are one of the most underrated bands on the scene.Their first album"far away from the sun" is a dark unholy masterpiece wich I think every serious black metal fan should own.Coming of chaos should not be viewed as a follow up on that-nor is it better or less as good.I'ts differant in alot of ways-production,playing style and sound. You can clearly see that they have grown alot since "far away..." cause the guitaring is more complex-the drumming is more intens and they seem to be alot more technical than alot of black metal bands out there. The songwriting is still as dark and full of evil splendour as always.Alot of peole now put them in the black/death catogory and compare them to bands like Dissection-with witch I can agree-but I can honestly say-Dissection seems pale an boring compared to Sacramentum!! decide for yourself.Dark hails the coming of chaos!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Blending the best of Metals, March 30, 2003
This review is from: The Coming of Chaos (Audio CD)
After the tremolo masterpiece "Far Away From the Sun", Sacramentum offer an album now with more twisting inventive rhythms. The band experiments with the more popular Heavy Metal-based structure and the Black Metal ditto, with more distinct choruses. Through high-speed adventures over twisting landscapes, Sacramentum reach an idea central to each song, and create a unity of technicality and emotional beauty. This progressive offering reaches more universal conclusions under a short period of time, than do most "Black Metal".

The production is perhaps a bit too much for this material, but this album remains as one of the greater discs of modern Metal, and with splendour containing such great musicians in complete control, and with one of my favourite vocalists.

3.0 out of 5 stars They have done better, June 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Coming of Chaos (Audio CD)
Considering the high expectations I had on Sacramentum after having heard "Far away from the sun", it is not surprising that I was a bit disappointed upon hearing this recording. Although most songs have a powerful melody that makes them worth listening to, this production lacks the depth and creativity I was hoping for. This is less black metal and more heavy metal than previous material, and may consequently be more attractive to that kind of audience, but for the obscure and beautifully dark feeling of black metal, do instead buy "Far away from the sun".
