Many of my own readers have written to me to ask for recommendations of other books they can read on the topics of technology and interpreting. One of my favorite titles for this topic is The Coming Industry of Teletranslation by Minako O'Hagan.

Published in 1996 by Multilingual Matters, this book was ahead of its time, but remains extremely relevant today. With discussions of remote conference interpreting, video interpreting, and speech recognition technologies, this book provided a vision into the future.

In fact, at the end of the book, O'Hagan asks the reader to envision a scenario in 2020, in which a Japanese businessman traveling abroad obtains an interpreter and overcomes language barriers in an online environment. As she explains, "This is when the global village will truly be transformed into a space unhindered by language barriers."

Many of the items she describes are already a reality, although it's only 2011, but there is still a long go for these services to become as widespread as O'Hagan envisions. As she explains, "Exactly when this level of refinement is reached remains a question, but there can be no doubt that teletranslation services will continue to help close communication gaps which would otherwise by widening as we move towards the new communications age."

This book covers the current translation industry and its future forecast.

By this term,she predicts that communications based traslation will prevail into translation market place around the globe.
I believe that this book is one of the best books about translation industry ans its related topics.
