4.0 out of 5 stars Quirky, Neurotic, Entertaining
The title of this book was the question I was contemplating of my own life at the time. Its reassuring to know that other people are too. Kari did a great job with this book, even self published, good for you and better for us the reader that you got it to print. I laughed and identified with her self-doubt and over analysis many times. But mostly I laughed. She's honest...

She's honest in her concern and quest for finding recognition of just what she's contributed in her lifetime and is there merit to it. The journey for both reader and Kari provide a catharsis to reconsider our definition of "mediocrity" or just getting on with life. Great things don't always happen in a big way but little by little.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!, February 8, 2007
This review is from: Coming to Terms with Mediocrity: And Other Humorous Life Lessons (Paperback)
A witty look at life from the perspective of Kari Breed. We find she is, like most of us, not nearly as self confident and superior as she'd like to be and copes with herself by a judicious application of biting, gritty humor. She had me laughing so hard my face hurt, and I'm sure the neighbors were ready to have me committed!
In her stories she reveals a profound understanding of her own character and give us the opportunity to laugh with her as she faces the challenges life throws her way.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ!!!, February 7, 2007

This review is from: Coming to Terms with Mediocrity: And Other Humorous Life Lessons (Paperback)
Once I started reading this book, I literally could not put it down until I was finished. I even can't wait to read it again. The author's unique view of the world through her experiences is very funny, truthful, and thought provoking. The life lessons she adds to each chapter are quite hilarious and seem to apply to everything in my life. I found it easy to relate to the author's thoughts and experiences, which kept me tuned in and laughing my butt off. I laughed, I cried, I even learned somethings about myself. I highly recommend this to everyone!! It is a great book, well written and easy to read. It will definitely entertain you, and hey you might even learn something too! Get your copy now and have a blast reading this one!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Coming to terms with Kari Breed, one quip at a time..., June 8, 2008
This review is from: Coming to Terms with Mediocrity: And Other Humorous Life Lessons (Paperback)
Kari Breed is masterful with the quip. She brandishes it like a fine-tuned sword that has been honed by life and polished with humor.

It's hard not to laugh most of the time that you are reading this book, whether it be funny-ha-ha laughing, or oh-dear-god-I-know-what-you-mean kind of laughing. The writing is from the perspective of an average gal talking about living an average life and being okay with it, but there is nothing average about the book itself.

Her writing is to the point, very funny, and above all, very relevant. Have you ever wondered what Douglas Adams' next book would have read like if instead of dying, he had a sex change and took plenty of estrogen pills? Okay, maybe it's just me, but I think Kari's book is a pretty good representation of what I had in mind.

She makes you realize that we are not alone, that we are all indeed very normal, or at least, we are all the sane kind of crazy.

Reading the book, i didnt really know what to expect at all. Was it going to be a serious kind of book, or was it a funny one? Was it boring or helpful, or not.

After having read it i can say, it is a very good book. Kari Breed shows life, like we all know it, some problems small, some big, but i do think everyone can find himself in her position every once in a while. She manages to bring us one thing to mind: We share the same problems with so many other people. It is ok to feel the way she did at times and also, to laugh about the situations afterwards. To see how silly we are at times for being frustrated about so little things, and to realize life goes on, and they are no more then a little bump compared to our whole life. She manages to point these things out to us, that we would have trouble seeing ourselves.

Have you ever thought "am I the only one this is happening to?" The author has a clever ability to bring humor to life's annoying nuances. There is something in this book everyone can relate to. This is a refreshing and honest funny voice on the scene today. Buy it, read it, LAUGH!

Our book club chose this book recently. We had trouble getting the book through our normal source and then we realized it's a "Vanity Press". In other words, self-published. I'm all for self-publishing when you have a great item, but this doesn't fit the bill.
The writing is very poor, the subject is pretty dumb and the life lessons aren't that thrilling. I was expecting a lot of humor or even something deeper as if the author had truly gained some knowledge and was able to share it. This isn't humorous, it isn't deep and it's really not worth reading. This book is more like a bad blog where someone has too much time on their hands, but isn't able to capture a mood or feeling and certainly can't convey it.
I'm guessing the positive reviews are also "vanity press".
