4.0 out of 5 stars Opens our eyes
It is common in scriptures for God's people to misunderstand their neighbors -- so, for example, Jeremiah has to instruct the exiles to care about Babylon neighborhoods and Paul leads the church's engagement with Mediterranean cultures (and needs to face down Peter to do it). DeYoung cares about how Euro-American eyes can be prone to misunderstandings concerning other...

If you have to read this book for any other reason than a class you are taking DONT! If it is for a class consider taking a lower grade and saving yourself a great deal of grief.

The stated purpose of the book is to break down how Christianity has been used to oppress others and has become nothing more than a "white man's religion." While some of the authors...

DeYoung cares about how Euro-American eyes can be prone to misunderstandings concerning other cultures -- and he believes in the power of God's Word to convert us. These Bible stories, and DeYoung's savvy connections with America's cultures, provide a rich set of resources for the diversity we need in our diverse society.

If you have to read this book for any other reason than a class you are taking DONT! If it is for a class consider taking a lower grade and saving yourself a great deal of grief.

The stated purpose of the book is to break down how Christianity has been used to oppress others and has become nothing more than a "white man's religion." While some of the authors statements are true, this book does nothing to bring people together, instead it simply shifts the ability to oppress from one group to another and has little to do with bringing people together.
