4.0 out of 5 stars About Time, May 1, 2003
By
This review is from: Coming Up (Audio CD)
Well if theres one thing I cant stand its a load of ponsed up toss, which thank God you dont get with this CD.Long story short a friend of a friend of a distant aquaintance mentioned the band and purely by the fact I remembered the name I took a chance and gave it a whirl. Right from the off you get in your face production, a tight groove and slap it if you like it lyrics. The genre twists and turns and you certainly take a journey or two throughout the record,(some good some bad) from funkadelic grooves to folky acoustic ballads, bar room blues to classic rock but in the final track (excluding the somewhat out of place Bonus track)Another Day you get your admission fee back with interest.
If you like it gift wrapped and disposable go elsewhere
if you like it real....

4.0 out of 5 stars The Sound, April 18, 2003
This review is from: Coming Up (Audio CD)
Didn't know what to expect here, any band that has an interest in Submarines has got to be a worry. Still no need to be cautious this time the first track kicks in like the drugs squad at dawn and proceeds to lay down a fat funky in your face groove. Next up is more of the same in the way of Outta Sight, all be it with a dash of seventies porn. Third track is a change of direction with Let You Go, a nice and simple acoustic ballad leading to the grandiose Hey Hey Hey, did I detect a bit of a Skynyrd influence there (oops showing my age). Track five is back to the drugs squad before another acoustic ballad with more than a hint of the Stones, pianos, 12 strings and girly backing to boot. Sleaze City is our next stop as B Blues does exactly what it says on the tin. Finally we arrive at Another Day, at seven minutes thirty its not short but it is good, a class ballad that builds to a rip roaring climax. Overall not a bad first effort at all and I`m certainly looking forward to seeing these boys live....© 2003 The Sound
