The writing in CTYS is a continuation of the wonderfully engaging style of her earlier book. But I particularly enjoyed the effort to provide more definitions in differentiating her unique process. I found many meaningful and thought-stimulating concepts throughout the book but these pale in comparison to a proposed concept featuring the relationship between the ego and the soul. Within this story I found what I consider to be the first working theory for the meaning of life and man's role in this earthly-life and beyond. It is truly the first God-worthy master plan for an evolving universe and I am thrilled that not only do I have a role to play but each of us has a personal responsibility in this plan. For me this was the life changing potential and every step along this path is both exciting and highly rewarding.
If you ever thought that you were meant for some higher purpose then you should read this book to confirm your most important role. The advanced meditation techniques wrapped around this concept help you tap your inner wisdom and guide you in this journey and beyond.
Her advice and instructions are sharp and very do-able,very unique in approach, and urges your participation in a manner which is playful and adventurous in concept and serious in terms of how the exercises will improve your life.
Her writing often touches me in a manner that few authors do. There was one part in particular I was reading I resonated so deeply with; I felt an internal twisting, a yearning, a longing to reach out and connect, to be uplifted, to touch and become one with the Truth of Being- I felt my heart would explode and tears sprung to my eyes. And that coming from someone who never cries!
I recommend this book for anyone yearning to connect with the part of themselves which is vibrant, creative, joyful, flowing, wise, peaceful, and loving.
Johnson clearly and succinctly explains how your bodily sensations are valuable messages from your authentic Self, and why your attention and creative imagination are tools you can use to translate and transform them into healing energy. The technique is explained in clear, step-by-step procedures anyone can follow. It is supplemented with helpful examples from her own practice that demonstrate the personal growth and sense of freedom and peace it can bring.
I especially liked the section explaining the vital connection between our thoughts and the feelings and emotions they generate. And I found her clear and much-needed explanation about how our Ego's habitual thinking sabotages our best intentions and growth without our awareness to be the most helpful one I've read. This is valuable knowledge from which meditators and non-meditators alike can benefit.
I recommend this book to anyone who is open to trying a new and effective meditation practice that is particularly relevant to Westerners. (Pun intended, Texas Sister!) Personally, I'm especially glad I read it because I've been looking for a way to introduce meditation to my grandchildren, and Coming to Your Senses has gifted me with a method that is easier and far more fun than anything else I've tried!
