I ordered this device because I use distinctive ring for my home office number. The problem is that my Verizon voicemail can only use one greeting for both types of rings, and I wanted a different greeting depending on the type of ring coming in. I connected this device to an answering machine and had the single ring (my original home number) routed to the answering machine. Then I set up the voicemail to pick up after 6 rings to give the answering machine a chance to pick up first. The effect is that the double ring (the office line) does not get picked up by the answering machine, so if unanswered, it goes to Verizon voicemail. It was very easy to set up and did exactly what I needed. I have two minor problems now:a) My answering machine has 2 cordless phones associated with it, so those don't get the double-ring calls, so I can't pick up my incoming office calls on those phones. b) If I'm on the phone, all other calls get forwarded to my voicemail, which has the office greeting. Not a big deal, but a little confusing for some folks calling my home line. Overall, if you're in the same boat as me, I think this is a great and inexpensive solution.

Ok, but does not work with caller ID,

This product is OK but has one major drawback. You will not be able to use caller ID unless you rewire your whole house. The manufacturer claims that this product will work with caller ID but that is not true. Any phone signal that comes out of this product will not display caller ID. You will need to run a new set of wires to each phone location and connect that to your phone line BEFORE it enters the DR401 call manager. You then have to wire the other end to a seperate caller ID box by each phone. Hardly worth the effort in my opinion. If you don't need or care about caller ID this product works great! Otherwise take note of the above.

It really helps having one of these. I can isolate 4 phone devices on one phone line. No one can accidentally "Pickup" on top of another user already on the line. It does what it's supposed to! Well worth the money.

Clear Instructions - Easy to Install,

Replaced 10 year old phone company supplied unit. Instructions were easy to follow. I have 3 phone devices with distinctive ring numbers on one line - voice, fax, and incoming modem. All work well and caller ID is preserved.
