5.0 out of 5 stars Command Hotcall HC4000
I had to write this review.Because of the 2 reviews before mine.(1)You do not give a product a bad rating if your modem or phone service isn't up to date! (2) You don't give it a bad rating if you got a defective unit! You just sent it back for a new one. Because they work great! This unit does it all. Just like it reads in...

1.0 out of 5 stars Simply doesn't work.
I got this for my father as a gift. It occasionally works for a call or two, then just stops. Sometimes it messes up the dial up connection; sometimes it doesn't let you call out. Sometimes it picks up the call; sometimes it doesn't. We've tried a second one...no luck. It sounds so simple, but it just doesn't work.

I had to write this review.Because of the 2 reviews before mine.(1)You do not give a product a bad rating if your modem or phone service isn't up to date! (2) You don't give it a bad rating if you got a defective unit! You just sent it back for a new one. Because they work great! This unit does it all. Just like it reads in ad. Easy to hook up!I wish I would have known about it when I was paying for 2 lines. The money I'm saving will pay for it in 3 months. You must remember to contact your phone company if you have Call Waiting and Caller ID. You need to be hooked up to Call Waiting ID or Wait and See. If you don't have Wait and See or Call Waiting ID with Caller ID and Call Waiting. It will not work. Also you have to set you call waiting on computer to the directions in owners book. I almost didn't buy the unit because of the 2 reviews. What a mistake I would have made. Buy this if you are going to stay with dial up service! I did,and I'm happy I did.I can see who is calling now when I'm on line.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must Have" for Dial-up Users with Only One Phone Line, April 24, 2003

The HC4000 is very easy to use. I received mine today and had it hooked up in just a few minutes. I have been using an Emerson Swithboard but found it very unreliable. It was missing too many calls. With the Hot Call, I know who is calling and can choose to take the call or ignore it. I have been testing it with my cell phone and so far it has not failed to recognize that I am receiving another call. You must have Call Waiting with Caller ID for the HC4000 to work. The first unit I received had a defective modem board and had to be returned, it is working great! If you have dial-up service with only one phone line, I would highly recommend the Hot Call 4000. You won't have to miss those important calls anymore!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't be any simpler or better!, February 29, 2004

I finally upgraded from the Hotcall 3000 to this new 4000 model and it's made a major difference in the way I can be online now. I was happy with the old unit but never knew if I should pick up the phone and lose my connection (especially if I was playing an online game, knowing it'd be over if I picked up).

Now I can see who's actually calling and decide if it's worth picking up, but more importantly I know who it was, so I can always call them back later. Very nice, as simple as hooking up an answering machine, and the loud ring is less annoying than the older units as well :)

I haven't had any problems at all with getting calls, missing calls, or anything else mentioned. As with any strange electronics device, I'd have to say half of the blame of malfuction (unless it's a defective unit) is going to be the fault of the user and the setup they've created for it. But hey, I've got TWO phones (with a jack splitter, in case you're wondering) and an answering machine hooked into mine, and it still works flawlessly. I don't know how to make it NOT work :)

I just got my HC 4000 today. It has 4 holes, for the phone, the modem, the line and power. That's it! (You must have call waiting) I picked up my cell phone and called my phone while on line....1 ring in the cell and I heard a click on the HC 4000 & it started ringing and flashing! It displayed my cell number on it's display. I answered the phone and stayed off line for a few seconds and did not lose my internet connection when I hung up. If my mind changes over the next few days I'll update this. But so far I think I'll like it for my purposes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific product!, August 12, 2003

This review is from: Command Communications Hotcall 4000 Internet Call-Waiting Device with Caller ID (Office Product)
I previously used an Internet Call Waiting service from my phone company while I surfed the Net, but when I changed to a different phone company, I had to find something else. The online services I investigated did not allow me to just answer my call and talk (they wanted to take a message for me), or they wanted to charge me for the privilege. I bought HotCall and solved my problem instantly. It works just as advertised and I'm completely satisfied. It connected quickly to my phone, and now when I'm online, an incoming call sounds a tone and a light flashes, and the caller's name and number are displayed. Even if you step away from the computer and miss a call, a New Call light appears and a convenient button allows you to immediately call back the party. Don't expect to keep surfing the Internet for very long while you talk, but I've been able to fend off telemarketers quickly and stay connected. I've also been able to ignore a call and continue on the Internet.

This is a great product and I wish I had bought it a long time ago instead of paying monthly charges. One of the best features is that HotCall doesn't put ANY software on your computer, no ads, no pop-ups, nothing. When you answer, it's just like answering call-waiting, no ads for the caller to hear. I love it!

Purchased unit new (at least it was said to be ).
There were many features on the device that didn't work at all, worked improperly or functioned intermittently.
The unit also appeared to have used and returned by a previous customer. There were about 20 calls stored on the caller ID log; and the LCD plastic film protector had already been peeled off and was stuck to the side of the box.

I promptly received a machine that did not operate. It was obvious that this was a used machine that someone else had returned. There were names and various writings in the instruction booklet. It had to be returned. A big disappointment.
