5.0 out of 5 stars Gives You Exactly What You Want and Expect
Good, old school action. Some righteously cheesy one liners, delivered like only Dolph can, a bit of weed and a bunch of dead Communists.

What else do you need to know?

3.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly not bad
It has been a while, and I mean a while, since I've checked out anything that has Dolph Lundgren as the main star. However, there was something about Command Performance that made me want to see it, so I gave it a chance, and it turns out that it actually isn't half bad, and probably one of the best things that Dolph has ever starred in. 5.0 out of 5 stars One of Dolph's Best!, November 11, 2009

I would say this is easily on of Dolph's best movies. Its a decent although, predicable die hard clone, but for lovers of action movies, it gets the job done. Once the carnage starts up, it never really stops, and true, Dolph only dispatches 11 bad guys, most are quality and entertaining. If you hate 80's action, and tough guys, then find another movie. I though the film had a nice mix of humor and action. To all the Dolph naysayers out their, you just wish that you could go shirtless for a whole movie when your his age. The man has still got it.

Dolph can definitely act and direct. This is even better than Missionary Man.I like the idea that an old burn-out rocker can "get it together",take charge, kick butt and get the girl.Melissa Smith was SMOKING HOT!My Italian blood pressure was off the charts. My testosterone level was thru the roof for days!I liked the way she looked at him in the beginning-with admiration and sensual interest. It is never too late for old warriors(like me) to get the girl.My copy did not have any extras, and I would have liked to see how the film was produced, with interviews, etc. The music thruout the film was great and made the movie.I hummed Melissa's opening tune "Lost in Love"for days! The one liners Dolph had were great!Remember- "Watch the hair ,dude!"when he fought the first man in the restroom? Get this film ,you will love it and be surprised how far Dolph has come in the movie industry.

However, there was something about Command Performance that made me want to see it, so I gave it a chance, and it turns out that it actually isn't half bad, and probably one of the best things that Dolph has ever starred in. Dolph (who also directs) stars as Joe, an aging drummer in a band that is opening for a huge American pop princess (Melissa Smith) in Moscow, when out of nowhere terrorists make their presence felt. Before you know it, things basically go into Die Hard mode, but what stops Command Performance from turning into a yawn-fest are some well assembled action sequences and even some surprisingly decent acting. Lundgren is enjoyable as he can be, and former Pussycat Doll contender Melissa Smith is a sight to behold. All in all, you'll certainly see better action flicks than Command Performance, and you'll certainly see worse ones too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dolph drums up some decent action, November 27, 2009

Dolph has directed himself in a pretty good B-grade action movie. Would I buy it for more than the cost of renting it? No.
Sure, it's Die-Hard-in-a-concert-arena, but the Russian locations and the aversion Dolph's character has to guns (though ridiculous and short-lived) add some novel touches. Oh, and apparently Dolph knows how to play the drums.
The funniest part is Michelle Smith's smokin' hot young singer character constantly making eyes at the aging Dolph Lundgren. But, hey, he's the director!

Dolph delivers the goods with Command Performance! Great Action Movie.
Written, Directed and Lead by Dolph. Dolph shows he is also an accomplished drummer.
Dolph is the smartest Action Star on the Planet (Master Degree, Speaks Several Languages, Multiple Martial Arts Titles, Drummer, Writer, Director, a total Bad-Ass Swed) One of my favorites.

3.0 out of 5 stars Joe the drummer, rocking hard with the President of Russia . . ., April 24, 2010
This review is from: Command Performance (DVD)
For a while now, Dolph Lundgren has been directing himself, in projects of his choosing. Qualitywise, these efforts have ranged in the middle ground, being neither disasters, nor great. Displaying some originality, Command Performance (2009), falls in the upper end of that same range. Lundgren does triple duty, as star, director, and contributor to the screenplay. Usually favoring low-key personas, in depth character development, is not a strong point in many of Lundgren's films. That is also the case here, as he plays Joe, a drummer in a rock band, thrust into a violent situation, when terrorists invade a concert arena, and take the Russian President hostage.

Making a command performance, at the request of President Dimitri Petrov (Hristo Shopov), pop star Venus (Melissa Smith), is the headliner for a charity concert in Moscow. Also on the bill are the rock band Pilgrim, for whom the imposing Joe, impressively pounds the drums. While Venus is onstage, terrorists enter the venue and take control, shooting into the crowd, and capturing Petrov and his two daughters, who are big Venus fans. Oleg Kazov (Dave Legeno) the leader of the terrorists, uses a captured TV camera crew to transmit his ransom demands, to the Russian army surrounding the arena.

A drugged up Joe, seems like an unlikely hero, but he soon comes out of his haze, shoving a drumstick through a mercenary's skull. Joe teams up with Mikhail Kapista (Zahary Baharov), a member of the president's security team, and Venus, who has also managed to get free. Though hardly an ideal fighting team, they look for a way to save the President.

The focus isn't totally on Joe the drummer, and Lundgren has time to devote to directing others. He does a capable job, particularly with action sequences. The story has some depth and texture, but there are times when things get too cartoonish or overdramatic. The violence is overdone in places, but Command Performance holds together well enough, adopting a mostly serious tone. The Russian army is largely inept, mostly used to fill in background information about Kazov. To save his daughters, the President is forced to take matters into his own hands. In the end, Joe picks up some new fans, and even cracks a smile, as he rides off with Venus.

Although the reality factor is not very high, this is a fairly enjoyable film. The character Joe, while the typical strong silent type, actually has a little personality, and for a change is not some ex-military type. There are no big co-stars, but Melissa Smith displays some range, and also provides the vocals for the featured song, Lost In Love. The group D2, contributes the rock numbers attributed to the band Pilgrim.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all, March 31, 2010
I've seen just about all of Dolph's movies and this one is definitely one of his best. The action is great and for once he isn't a cop or some kind of ex secret agent. Oh and checking out Melissa Smith alone is well worth the movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars great flick as usual starring Dolph Lundgren, April 10, 2011

This review is from: Command Performance (DVD)
Dolph's real daughter is Anna in the flick, she is none other than Ida S. Lundgren and she is listed in FACEBOOK & says she is married & looking for men & relationships, Ida was born 29 April 1995. She has her younger sister and Dad listed as her friends. A daughter getting married at 14 is unreal in this country. She has 13 ppg's under Google & Bing.
He does play drums since High School.

3.0 out of 5 stars (2.5 STARS) Dolph Lundgren Is a Rock Band Drummer Fighting a Group of Terrorists, March 2, 2011
This review is from: Command Performance (DVD)
A rock band drummer named Joe takes on a terrorist group that took the Russian president as hostage. "Command Performance" is already referred to as "Die Hard at a rock concert," but the story of the Nu Image action film, starring and co-written/directed by Dolph Lundgren, may be closer to that of Jean-Claude Van Damme's "Sudden Death" (1995).

Anyway, Dolph Lundgren is Joe, a veteran drummer of the rock band C.M.F, signed as the opening act for the American pop star Venus (Melissa Molinaro credited as Melissa Smith). During the concert, a group of terrorists start raising hell, shooting the audiences and security guards before taking hostage President Petrov (Hristo Shopov, Pontius Pilate of Mel Gibson's "Passion"), US Ambassador Bradley (Clement von Franckenstein) and the president's two teenage daughters Anna and Yana. (Incidentally, Anna is played by Dolph Lundgren's real-life daughter Ida.)

The film has some slack moments and the storyline is predicable, but "Command Performance" delivers what it promises, a solid B action thriller. There are quite a few bloody shootings and fights, plus (literally) blasting guitar sound, which is surely fun to watch.

The idea of a biker-turned-rock drummer-turned-action hero is hardly believable, but so is Casey Ryback, a Navy SEAL operator-turned-chef, and "Under Siege" is pretty entertaining movie. "Command Performance" is a decent direct-to-DVD action (and the live concert part is not bad). Not much originality, but the film has some tongue-in-cheek moments such as the character President Petrov, obviously inspired by Vladimir Putin, former Russian president and judo practitioner (see how Petrov knocks down one of the terrorists). And watching Lundgren playing the drums is fun.
