5.0 out of 5 stars Very Cool Game
When I first played commandos, I got murdered in about five minutes. After a little while, though, I was getting better. By the time I finished the first two levels (out of 30), not only was I very familiar with the interface, but I was also gripped by the game itself. Commandos is an incredible game. When I first played commandos, I got murdered in about five minutes. After a little while, though, I was getting better. By the time I finished the first two levels (out of 30), not only was I very familiar with the interface, but I was also gripped by the game itself. Commandos is an incredible game. It is a real-time action/adventure game where you control 2-6 characters in geurilla type missions. The missions follow the story line of World War II and the missions take place in Norway, North Africa, France, and Germany. The real plus here is that the game is very historically accurate. This makes the game even more interesting. The only drawback to this game (and for a lot of people, it isn't a drawback) is that it is very tough. The later missions get very hard, so some people may lose interest in the game. The plus to this is that the game lasts that much longer. This is not a game that one could finish in a weekend. Finally, Commandos comes with a multi-player feature so you can run missions with others via the internet or LAN. Overall, I think that this is a great game!

This game can get very hard at times but like any good game of chess it takes strategic planning in order to win. You have 6 characters in the game and each has their own skill. The purpose is to use each man together with their skills to achieve your mission. The game is tough but it is also time consuming as well as fun. The game is based during WWII in which your men go in Nazi camps and sabotage, rescue, kidnap, assassinate, etc. This game is not for everyone especially for those who get easily frustrated, it takes patience and planning to win. I recommend playing a downloaded demo to see how you like it before actually buying it. The price has reduced so i would recommend buying one now or wait as they might combine the two commando titles in one to resell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Commandos Behind Enemy Lines, December 27, 1999

Your looking for a new game right? But, your sick and tired of being bored with your new game by the end of the weekend. Not with this game my friend. You control 2-6 commandos during each mission using each commandos unique abilities to wreak havoc and mayhem on the German Army. The missions start off fairly easy, but watch out! The missions become more and more difficult as the game progresses. This game is not for someone looking for a relaxed WWII sim game. Missions can take a few hours to complete, and there's more than one way to complete each mission. I highly recommend this game for the person who enjoys a challenging(very challenging) game combined with a great storyline.

5.0 out of 5 stars Commandos is Great War Game, November 25, 1999

I play many different war games, and I have to say this is one of the best that I have played. The graphics and story line are very good. The control of the players is a little difficult at first however if you do the training that they have it is very easy to pick up how to move the players. Well take many hours to complete the whole game successfully. Which I think makes it well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars How it works, May 12, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines (CD-ROM)
To the guy who posted this only works on 95 and 98 only, don't install it, it will not install but copy the commandos folder (the fold that has all the game, not the install stuff) to your hard drive and run the "commandos.exe" then u should have no problems, cuz it works fine on my computer

EDIT:When you insert the CD, the install menu should show up. Close that.

Then open "my computer" in there you should see your CD in your D drive called "COMMANDOS_EARLY" or "COMM_BEL" or what ever depends on the verisons

Right click that and select "Explore"

Once in the folder you should see an AOL, COMANDOS, CPATROL, DEMOS, DIRECTX, DXMEDIA, EREG, INSTALL, MANUAL - Folders

Select the commandos folder and drag it to your desktop.

Once your computer has copied the commandos folder to your desktop, open it and right click "commandos.exe" and select "properties" then in there, there should be two tabs "general" and "compatibility" select "compatibility" and click on the box that says
"Run this program in compatibly mode for:" and then set it to windows 98.

And after you're done with everything close everything and double click the "commandos.exe"

5.0 out of 5 stars After 6 yrs, I still love it., March 14, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

It has been 6 yrs ago since the last time I played it. I finished this game and you know, its passion is still remain in me until now.

I can recall exactly how my characters, have ventured with me through out a long distance. About mission 14, when I group all of them to the boat and escape to the sea, their HP are just enough for survival. What a remarkable game. The only game could draw my passion. 6 yrs ago just like yesterday. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Impressive, January 1, 2003

If your looking for a game that will keep you thinking for hours on end, then Commandos is the game for you. This game may follows the same way as other RTS games but the way it's set up is truly unique. All of your men have to make it out alive. If even one of them dies, it's all over. The challenge is really good to. It took me over a hour to figure out some the early missions. Definitely a game that you won't get bored with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Say goodbye to all your other games, July 27, 2001

In a world full of 'cookie-cutter first-person shoot-em-up' games, this one stands as one of the best games ever. Instead of mindlessly shooting everything in sight, one must think and plan to win in any of the scenarios -- quite often a mission can be completed without killing everyone.

I've owned this game for several years now, and keep coming back to it as it never gets old since you find yourself trying different methods. No special equipment is required such as force-feedback joysticks or voice-recognition. Just a good-response mouse, keyboard, and plenty of your favorite refreshment as you will be playing this game for hours.

One drawback to the game is that people who don't have it will never understand your passion for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and Bug Free, May 25, 2000
This review is from: Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines (CD-ROM)
Really fun game and a real challenge. Once you learn how to decently move around you will be at your computer for hours going through the missions. Some missions arn't as easy as others however, so you will need some patience. It is very satisfying once you learn how to use all your men. Having the spy distract a guard while the Green Beret slits his throat, or popping out of the water with the marine and harpooning an unsuspecting German makes for some good entertainment. If you like this game, I'd also recommend Hidden and Dangerous. It's similar but with a first person view.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's worth the 5 stars!!, April 29, 2001

Just take a look at the front cover of this game and you can think to yourself that this will be good and it was and still lives up to such a great game. Having been out for sometime I have still not lost interest. When you feel like a relaxing game infront of the computer then look no further but you may not need to relax too much as oyu been a bit of consentration. The battle scenes are so life like and are like you are actually controlling the commandos to complete the mission. When playing it you really think that you are there comtrolling the whole mission and how to get through it. The variety of weapons and types of characters are really superb but one thing that could be better is that they should be able to pick up any type of weapon that they can instead of having a certain set for each character. But you forget all this when playing as you get used to it and the different weapons that they all carry are so great anyway. Even being able to see where the enemy are looking adds a great touch to it. All the different locations make the game even more so realistic and great to play. All it needs is a bit more expanding and it will change from being a superb game to a amazing game. You will not be disappointed.
