Book Description

June 1995 0773490019 978-0773490017
This volume examines the Commedia dell'Arte as it formed a key element in the work of well-known writers such as Valle-Inclan and Garcia Lorca, as well as that of many other poets, playwrights and dramatic theorists in 19th- and 20th-century Hispanic literature. It analyzes thematically the development of the Commedia, its links with other theatrical and paratheatrical forms such as pantomime, circus and carnival. The book contains original analyses of Hispanic texts, and should be of interest to specialists in Hispanic literature. In addition, the text provides students of theatre history an Hispanic dimension to Commedia studies. The reader's understanding should be enhanced by the inclusion of original translations of the quotations from the Hispanic texts studied.

This review is from: The History of the Commedia Dell'Arte in Modern Hispanic Literature With Special Attention to the Work of Garcia Lorca (Hardcover)
This book, The History of the Commedia Dell'Arte in Modern Hispanic Literature With Special Attention to the Work of Garcia Lorca, is the most comprehensive work of study of the commedia dell'arte you can find. I am majoring in Modern Hispanic Literature, and this book is a must, for anybody even remotely interested in the subject. My favorite thing about the book is that even though the subject is developed thoroughly, it doesn't get hung up in technicalisms and repetitiousness. Excellent Book! If you are interested in the subject, this is the book to get. Right now I'm using it as a main source for my thesis.
