5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest Films of All Time
Films are not about facts as much as they are about emotions. By that standard, JFK is completely and utterly accurate. It is an intensely moving picture. The fact of the matter is, something about the JFK assassination didn't sit well with the American people. This film is a representation of that feeling, of that betrayal.

3.0 out of 5 stars Original Theatrical Cut?
With this 50th Anniversary Edition, Warner Bros. missed a great opportunity to finally release the original theatrical cut of "J.F.K" on blu-ray. As of now, the original theatrical cut of the film - which won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing - is not available on DVD nor Blu-Ray. It can only be found on VHS or Laserdisc. Bummer.

Easily 5/5.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Difficult Film To Watch, August 28, 2013
By
Richard Robins (Palos Verdes, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: JFK 50 Year Commemorative Ultimate Collector's Edition (Blu-ray) (Blu-ray)
I've probably watched this film 200 times. The topic is the only 'coup d'etat' to date in American History: the assassination of Pres. John F. Kennedy in 5.6 seconds on Nov. 22, 1963. The scene was Elm Street near Houston in Dallas, Texas.

Oliver Stone, director and screenwriter, produced a film of unimaginable breath and depth. This lengthy film offers, among other details, virtually the entire 8-millimeter home movie by Abraham Zapruder of the last seconds of President Kennedy's life. The minutia in the film and script leave the viewer gasping.

I'm running thru 3 hours of drama regarding New Orleans District Attorney Garrison who painstakingly pursues every witness, many of whom died at the hands of seriously demented culprets. Stone suggests they were Military black ops trained in coup d'etats and subversion. At the end, Stone leaves us with the idea Lee Harvey Oswald was a patsy who didn't fire a bullet on Nov. 22, 1963. Form your own opinion.

I'm saying now, it is difficult for an American to watch this film without raising questions about our form of government and Constitution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never meant to be a documentary ..., November 15, 2013

This was never meant to be a documentary. It is a compilation exploring many facets of the case. And I love the negative "review" that is upset that the Academy Award-winning cut wasn't what this release contained. Darn that Stone: How dare he add to the original film and release this package! After watching several programs this week on the assassination, including Nova's nonsensical laser light show with an entry wound way up in the President's collar and Connally's wrist turned around 180 degrees, Oliver Stone's masterful JFK is closer to the truth than anything else we are being subjected to by our media outlets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic Bullet, September 5, 2013
This review is from: JFK 50 Year Commemorative Ultimate Collector's Edition (Blu-ray) (Blu-ray)
When will people realize there are no magic bullets ? Buy a physics book people. There was more than 1 shot. This was and is a major conspiracy covered up by the highest people in government and the CIA at the time. So many people who were witness to the event died before we could here there version or were never questioned. The Oswald did it, is a myth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Collector's Edition blu ray review, December 22, 2013

This review is from: JFK 50 Year Commemorative Ultimate Collector's Edition (Blu-ray) (Blu-ray)
"JFK" is Oliver Stone's thesis masterpiece about New Orleans DA Jim Garrison's investigation and subsequent prosecution in the Kenneday assasination. This is one of the most controversial films ever made and has been accused of everything from being "revisionist" history to being Stone's liberal propaganda to being a disrepectful call-to-arms against government agencies. The one point of agreement seems to be it is a big, brilliant, and enormously skillful thriller. This film will be studied in film classes and schools for years to come. The Oscar winning editing is truly a feat of artistry given the amount of footage, varying film stocks(35mm, 16mm, 8mm), and enormous tapestry Stone has created here.
This "Ultimate Collector's Edition" is just awesome. As a fan of the film, and of Kennedy, this package is full of extras such as several "making of" docs, Stone's own documentary on Kennedy, as well as a number of collectibles such as written correspondence from JFK, a copy of his inaugral address, photos, and much more. Also included is a dvd copy of the film "PT-109", and of course, the Director's Cut of "JFK" on blu-ray. The hi-def transfer is absolutely sumptuous. The various stocks all shining and adding details which heighten the emotion of the film. The huge, all- star cast is a treat, and it is anchored by Kevin Costner's restrained but forceful and moving performance as Garrison.
If I have any complaints, its that the theatrical cut of JFK was not included, if for no other reason than for comparing the two cuts.
This is a must-own for fans of the movie and fans of JFK himself. "JFK" is not a historical document, its a thesis theory as to what may of happened on November 22, 1963. As long as you understand that, this film proves to be one of the best of the 1990s and the best film Stone has ever made.

5.0 out of 5 stars "One pristine bullet? That dog don't hunt!", March 13, 2014
This review is from: JFK 50 Year Commemorative Ultimate Collector's Edition (Blu-ray) (Blu-ray)
Oliver Stone's JFK (1991) is a skillful blending of fact, fiction and presumption
on who was responsible for the 11/22/63 murder of President John F. Kennedy.

A world class cast and Stone's fine script make a serious case for a coup d'etat, with Vice President Lyndon Johnson and the DC power structure the beneficiaries. What can't be argued is that America's complete involvement in Vietnam can be traced back not to JFK but to his successor.

Highlight of this compelling drama (I have the Director's cut) is Kevin Costner's nearly half-hour courtroom soliloquy (as New Orleans DA Jim Garrison), as he lays out evidence that Lee Oswald was not a lone nut assassin. Key to the prosecution's case against supposed ex-CIA man Clay Shaw (Tommy Lee Jones) is the Zapruder film, enhanced here so that the fatal shot is almost impossible to watch without cringing. Costner is simply brilliant in this crucial part of the story. His emotional final thoughts make for one the greatest scenes in cinematic history.

No matter your opinion on the JFK assassination, this is a movie not to be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars All collectors editions should be like this, August 10, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: JFK 50 Year Commemorative Ultimate Collector's Edition (Blu-ray) (Blu-ray)
This is an excellent collectors edition. Except for a booklet on the movie all the items in the collection are about JFK unlike collectors releases like ARGO that have very little items related to the actual event and characters. I highly recommend it to anyone who lived through those years and those interested in that turbulent time in American and World history.

Quality of the bluray transfer of the feature film is generally excellent. For overseas customers in region B the two bluray disks will play on region B players. The DVDS will need a region free player.
