Delightful reworkings of country-rock great GP, September 18, 2000

This review is from: Commemorativo: Tribute to Gram Parsons (Audio CD)
Maybe not all of the covers work, but this is mostly a very enjoyable album. Emmylou's tribute album has overshadowed this one, but with Bob Mould, Victoria Williams, Uncle Tupelo, and the Mekons, you know that there is some really good stuff here. Not as reverent as some tribute albums, and better for it! On the reverent ones, you'd generally do better to just buy the originals. In this case, DO buy the originals, then check out this entertaining cd.

Better than the all-strar tribute, September 23, 2002

This review is from: Commemorativo: Tribute to Gram Parsons (Audio CD)
This earnest and sometimes ragged tribute to the genius of Gram Parsons outshines, in my opinion, the Tribute by EmmyLou Harris that came out a few years later. While all the artists may not be as high profile as EH's, they come by their Gram Parsons influences honestly, and their love for the material shows. Definitely recommended. The only thing better is Gram Parsons himself in the GP/Grievous Angel CD.
