5.0 out of 5 stars A not-so-nice, quick, mind-changing read.

3.0 out of 5 stars What's the rest of the story?
Well written essay accurately assessing certain aspects of the problems facing society and their source. Precious little provided by the author to address solutions. The closest he gets is the "chapter" call "48 Minutes."

Folks, I am a Senior at West Virginia University, but I was born and raised in Atlanta and attended GA State U. for two years. Although I have always leaned toward a libertarian stand-point, this book was wquite a re-enforcer of my ideals. In fact, I gave my book to my best friend (calling him a liberal WAS an understaement). It totally changed his political outlook in about two days. I think this is a required handbook for surviving the liberal ideaology of giving handouts to those that "didn't win life's lottery."

5.0 out of 5 stars If Only Boortz Could Really Deliver This Speech!, December 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Commencement Speech You Need to Hear (Hardcover)
As usual, Boortz is Right on. He is a Libertarian Realist and is correct to recognize that modern post-secondary education institutions graduate Liberal Idealists that are in for a reality shock.

Boortz informs the reader that some of the graduating Liberal Idealists will not abandon their wishful thinking and will probably become tenured professors in order to propagate their non-realizable ideals to the next generation of impressionable young saps. For those that are dumb enough to believe that their Liberal Ideals are actually attainable, they will go into public office in order to make the world a more miserable place. And those that recognize their Liberal Ideals as unattainable nonsense, they will become Libertarians or Conservatives.

This book is indeed a Liberal Anti-Virus. However, if history is any guide, idealists rarely heed the acquired wisdom of those that have "been there and done that." More than likely, the Liberal Idealist will have to discover for himself that his ideals are simply impractical and contrary to Human Nature.

The State is simply not the answer to human problems. Single individuals and individuals voluntarily assembled together for a particular goal is the key to dealing effectively with problems and simultaneously preserving Freedom.

This book should be mandatory reading for the modern graduate. And I only wish that Boortz really could deliver this speech. However, since most school administrators are themselves Leftists and/or spineless, they couldn't tolerate the cold-hard facts that Boortz would unleash upon his audience.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is coffee for America's morning, July 1, 2005
This review is from: The Commencement Speech You Need to Hear (Hardcover)
I always find it interesting how many people will try to detract from these sorts of views. Wake up.
My 14 year old read this, along with "The Terrible Truth About Liberals". She looked at me, shrugged her shoulders, and said, "Yeah ... So? Doeasn't everyone already know all of that stuff?"
I told her, "No."
She promptly wrote a report on this book, along with a report on Mr. Boortz. She was allowed to do this in school because we eat beans & drive a crap-mobile so we can afford to send her and her twin sister to a catholic school, rather than one of the government indoctrination centers (government school) ...

I'm tired of beans, but proud that my children have more sense than the majority of people in this country.

Read this book. Drink the coffee. Wake up, America!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahh...Liberals, October 19, 2005
This review is from: The Commencement Speech You Need to Hear (Hardcover)
When liberals are confronted with the truth and facts, they resort to name-calling. That statement is has been proven very true in the reviews I've read about this book. The book itself is an in-your-face, hard-hitting speech that would truly prepare college graduates for the real world. I only wish some people wouldn't slam a book without actually reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars LIberals throw the word fascist around too much!, June 23, 2005
This review is from: The Commencement Speech You Need to Hear (Hardcover)
Acording to dictionary.com fascist means:

A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.

Somehow I don't think Boortz fits that mold. Read the book instead of imposing your "views of what you think Boortz will say" upon the interested readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars An insensitve, hard hitting reality check!, November 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Commencement Speech You Need to Hear (Hardcover)
Haven't read the book, only heard excerpts. But we have listened to Neal Boortz daily for over 7 years and are here to tell you that if you are easily offended, DO NOT buy this book! Neal pulls no punches when he tells graduates fresh from our liberal institutions of higher learning the facts of life. Also look for an updated and re-released version of this book entitled, "The terrible truth about liberals".

I find it amazing that the pre-K-16 indoctrination of American youth can be so masterfully and logically repudiated (and expunged) in so short a book is testimony to the absense of validity the left espouses. Way ta go Neal! Wuz up wit dat?

5.0 out of 5 stars Every graduate should be issued a copy with their diploma, June 17, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: The Commencement Speech You Need to Hear (Hardcover)
Any person who is graduating college or high school should be issued a copy of this book with their diploma. At a minimum, this should be required reading by the student body AND staff. If the teachers thought nearly as much as they think they think, this book wouldn't be required. However, since our society punishes achievement and rewards failure, a book which points out that our schools are failing its students would not be well received in the realm of acedemia

5.0 out of 5 stars Warning! This book will change your mind..., September 17, 1998

...and set you free. So if you're happy with the way the country is running, with people robbing you to pay for the "less fortunate" and other people filling your ears with propaganda about why it's ok, don't read it. If instead you've noticed that you work hard and struggle and succeed, just to have other people mope about how you have "all the luck", and if just once you would like to be congratulated for contributing to the nation's WELFARE, instead of just the nation's Welfare recipients, then start giving this book to people you meet. Go ahead, buy ten copies, (no, I don't work for the publisher) and let people understand. A lot of them have never heard these truths. And once you hear them, they can not help but turn your life in the direction of success and prosperity.

PS -- I only want to date people who have read this book from NOW ON! So if you're out there, start talking about it.

This review is from: The Commencement Speech You Need to Hear (Hardcover)
Mr. Boortz' book is definately one that needs to be handed out with every diploma. If it were and the message taken to heart, this nation would be MUCH better off. Hats off to you, Mr. Boortz.
