Great book for college!,
By Donald Hsu (NYC, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: E-Commerce 2012 (8th Edition) (Hardcover)
I have used this book for a course at the undergraduate level, titled "Global Electronic Commerce (GEC)". This book has in-depth coverage of the technical terms, infrastructure, and case studies. I like the way authored presented E-commerce as business, technology and society. The "Insight on Society" is a quick read to understand companies and issues such as Foursquare, Smartphone Security, Who is on your website? The payment methods were covered in details. If you teach MBA class, this book is excellent. Most Americans use Google FaceBook and YouTube (GFY), but never paid anything. GFY is not E-Commerce. It is a hard concept to teach the young people today. Amazon, Priceline, Expedia, JetBlue are the E-Commerce success stories. The only drawback of this book, is the lack of coverage of successful GEC firms. What I did is to ask students to do research on European discount airlines: Ryanair, EasyJet, AirBerlin, etc. They are doing this as their final project in teams. Students love this book and enjoy the course. The next step is to start a website, and sell to the 6.2 billion potential customers in the world!!!

Comprehensive and very current,

If you want to learn about e-commerce, this is a great book. It is not a how-to book, but gives you a comprehensive overview about the basic fundamentals of e-commerce. It is up to date, with alot of current data and information. Most of the chapters have a table at the beginning about what's new or important trends for 2011-2012, which is helpful. For a textbook, it is very readable -- there are case studies at the beginning and end of each chapter, and also shorter ones within the chapters that are like magazine articles and very interesting to read.
