College text that is based on the realities of e-commerce,
By Mike Tarrani "www.tarrani.com" (Deltona, FL USA) - See all my reviews (COMMUNITY FORUM 04) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: E-commerce: Business, Technology, Society (Hardcover)
This is more than a college text and it's of value to working professionals as well as to professors who want to provide a course that brings real world e-commerce issues into their curriculum. What sets this book apart for the classroom is the web site that supports the book. This site has subscription services (using the access code that is provided on a card inside the book), which includes book chapters, tutorials, streaming video lectures and more), and instructor services that provide lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations and a test bank. There are also resources that are open to the general public that are valuable and provide e-commerce news, business plans, and research articles. I like the way that the WWW is integrated into a traditional paper book to provide a comprehensive learning tool that is always up to date and evolving. For the working professional the material in the book (and associated web site) is applicable to real world issues. What impresses me the most is how the authors manage to comprehensively address topics in business, technology and social issues in 600 pages. Each section and each topic appears to be carefully selected to impart maximum knowledge on the key issues. For example, the descriptions, case studies and key concepts in Chapter 2, E-commerce Business Models and Concepts, hits all of the salient points. Another example, in Chapter 4, Building an E-commerce Web Site, is a discussion of the value of 100% uptime. These are topics business and IT professionals are struggling with, and it's refreshing to see them included in a college text book. As an IT consultant I found this book to be better than most I've read, and highly recommend it to business and IT professionals because it digs deep below the surface and uncovers the real issues. If you are an instructor or professor this book will allow you to prepare your students for the challenges that they will face on the job - and do so in an interesting manner.

Good, but dated....,
By Troy Marketing Associates (Acton, MA USA) - See all my reviews

I have used this textbook for several years - while it is a good basic source of information, it badly needs updating and supplementation in several important areas: RFID is not mentioned; Mobile/hand set E-Commerce is covered at a surface level, Search Engine and major Portal marketing needs updating, and much of the data are 3+ years old - very old given the rapid changes taking place.
If you are teaching an E-Commerce course from a Marketing perspective, with this book as the base, be prepared to suppement this textbook with books such as Spychips, and student subscriptions to WSJ or NY Times. Ad Age is another excellent supplementary information source. This is one of the few areas in business where the textbook should be updated every 2 years. Note from Spring 07 - the newer edition is better but still requires supplementation on areas auch as RFID and security.

Practical, Informative, and Interesting,

This review is from: E-Commerce: Business, Technology, Society, Case Book Update (2nd Edition) (Hardcover)
This is a college level text book that is actually interesting. It is very well written and most importantly, it is NOT boring. It's amazing how easy it is to read such a large book in a short amount of time when the book is well written. You will be able to actually design and learn how to host your own E-Commerce web site after reading this book. And it's a lot less expensive than you might think. This book is expensive but well worth it with excellent print and illustrations. It's easy to see that a lot of work went into this gigantic hardbound masterpiece.

I have used this book in a course I teach in a Web Development Curriculum at a Community College. The material is directly on target with many examples and case studies. Some of the end of chapter projects indicate sites that are no longer operational and the book's web site does not list that in its errata section but should. The inclusion of lots of statistical material on electronic commerce is excellent.

I teach several E-commerce Courses at a University. I am using this book in an introductory E-commerce course in a graduate MBA Program. It is great! It covers e-commerce from A to Z. It contains case studies for all of the chapters to give practical experience to each of the topics as well as well described and graphical presentations of the material. I highly recommend this book either for personal study or for course study of e-commerce.

Excellent textbook on E-commerce,
This review is from: E-Commerce: Business, Technology, Society (3rd Edition) (Hardcover)
I just received the new edition of Laudon and Traver's textbook on e-commerce and think its just great! I previously used the 2nd edition, which I also loved, and this new edition lives up to its predecessor. It contains all new and updated information and is extremely current. Its so well-written that it doesn't read like a textbook at all. I highly recommend it to anyone interesting in learning about e-commerce.

Start e-Commerce here !,

This book is the best one on e-Commerce written so far. The logical sequence followed in the book draws the reader into each chapter, and at the end one learns even the complicated topics effectively and efficiently.
If you know nothing about e-Commerce, or consider yourself a guru in the field, you need to buy this book as a valuable future reference. Nothing to say about the online supplement of the book, which includes lots of links for those who need further research. Dr. Yasin Ozcelik www.misworld.org

I am reading this book as part of self-studies to understand more about business issues, especially e-commerce.The book is good. Though I paid dearly for it ($97.00), I now think it is worth it all. Do not hesitate if you need a good book on e-commerce. All the best!

I was tracking the ecommerce course my son was taking in
grad school. Although a 2005 vs. 2011 copyright, it worked just fine. |
