5.0 out of 5 stars The problem does not change, August 24, 2005

The information in this booklet may be a bit dated--much subsequent research has clarified the actual numbers involved on the one hand, and on the other hand, researchers have proven how elusive reliable data can be--but Barnitz' work is still an important overview of crimes against children. In particular, this booklet gives a human face to the hundreds of thousands of victims of child sexual exploitation worldwide. In this specialized field there are too few reliable books--this booklet is a fine starting place to get the best information.

This booklet is a good starter for people getting involved in the issue. The information is basic, accurate and very informative. It's helpful in spreading the word about trafficking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good reference as a supplement, August 15, 2006
This review is from: Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children: Youth Involved in Prostitution, Pornography & Sex Trafficking (Paperback)
I bought this book as a supplement another book on trafficking of humans and exploitation of third-world women and children. The book is more like a pamphlet of condensed facts about definitions, why we should discuss trafficking of children, who's involved, the impact of the exploitation, and how it can be stopped. It's pretty dense, intense stuff and all references sources such as reports and conventions from int'l orgs like the ILO, the UN, INTERPOL et al. Inside is a disturbing and stark world map that shows by simple arrows where people are being trafficked to and from. The book is useful if you will be speaking about the issue (for example, if you're a teacher) since it's light, small and fits easily in your bag.
