What the Critics are saying about the works of Glen Krisch

"Krisch writes with sheer force and raw power-a welcome entry to the horror ranks."
-- Scott Nicholson, best-selling author of The Red Church

"Every new book by Glen Krisch is a reason to celebrate. Seeming to come from out of nowhere, he writes with the kind of assured, lyrical style that makes other writers salivate. Count me as one of them. He knows what makes a story tick. He knows the value of character. And he knows how to scare you. And he does it all like someone who has been writing since before King was King. Mark my words: The future for Krisch is going to be a bright one, and I'm hard-pressed to think of anyone who so completely deserves it."
-- Kealan Patrick Burke, author of The Turtle Boy and Kin.

"Where Darkness Dwells is a wonderful story, rich with imagination, adventure, and lots of heart and soul. And yes, it's scary! There is great complexity in the people and the town that Glen Krisch creates. He doesn't give us cardboard paper dolls to represent good and evil. These are living, breathing characters. Most everyone has their faults and even the more villainous characters are in possession of a soft spot. But yikes! The villainous characters do some seriously heinous things."
-- Carole Lanham, author of The Whisper Jar

"Where Darkness Dwells, is fast paced with a lot of twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages, wanting to find out what happens next. Even with such a large and varied group of characters as well as all the twists and turns I never felt that Glen lost focus as the story moved along quickly, and didn't lag for me at all."
-- Famous Monsters of Filmland

So Close to Home, Pain is My Fear Escaping, Wielder, Web Sighted, An Untenable Madness, Commitment

Very good, if not excellent, collection of short stories that will leave the reader, not only wanting more, but seriously questioning their sanity. I'm torn on which was my ultimate favorite...so, I'll have to say "Web Sighted", because of its excellent ending and "Commitment", because of its beautiful and touching message.

I enjoyed the stories in this book. They were all in their own way disturbing but still very entertaining. While they weren't self explanatory I think that is for the best because then the reader can make their own assumptions about what is really going on. I would recommend it to anyone who isn't so much looking for scary as the are looking for creepy.

I am rating this book of short stories 4 stars because though I finished reading it about 3 days ago and have since started reading another book, this one is still on my mind. Not many books hold my interest once I finish it and close the book, or in this case remove it from the carousel of my kindle.

The story that stuck with me the most is An Untenable Madness. I really had no idea what was going on, in a good way. I actually read that one a few times. It was complete madness, again in a good way.

Pain is My Fear Escaping included a hilarious interview scene. I was thinking, "is this serious?!?!?!?!?" The ending of that story was a contradiction from what the main character wanted. SPOILER ALERT: He wanted something bad to happen so he could overcome it. Well, something bad happened and he succumbed to it.

The other stories held my interest. I did delete this book from my Kindle carousel, but not from my Kindle library. This is a book I'd read again. It is a very very quick read for if you're on a bus, train, or a passenger in a car, or waiting for an appointment.

As a short story collection this was a fast read, but each tale kept me enthralled and ready for more. Krisch is a phenomenal wordsmith, writing with a confidence that enables him to explore themes and situations other lesser writers might struggle with.

This was my first dabble into Glen Krisch's madness, glad I made it to the table. I'll certainly be back for seconds.

I loved this book, in whole. My favorite story is Pain though. It gave me vivid dreams, unlike any others I have read over the years, along with another from this blizzard collection. Kudos to Glen, and I would love more shorts. You've gained a lifelong fan.
