I'll try to update this review as I use the flash more, but here are my first impressions.

It's pretty much all plastic construction but it feels reasonably sturdy. It should hold up fine to typical use, but is unlikely to survive any kind of fall (so don't drop it). The 4 different diffuser rings are easy to change, and the various step up rings are labeled, though the label is just a raised stamp so it's kind of hard to see. The step up rings are plastic, but I didn't have any issue threading the one I needed to the camera lens. I'm not so sure how well that will hold up to repeated mounting and unmounting, so if you see yourself doing that frequently, it would probably make sense to buy a metal step up ring that you can permanently mount one of the plastic rings to, that way you would be wearing out the metal step up rings, which are readily available.

The flash itself mounts to the front of the stepup ring via spring loaded tabs. There is enough tension that the flash won't unintentionally rotate within the ring. That said, by squeezing the buttons like you are going to remove the flash you can rotated it within the ring. The flash has 2 banks of 24 LEDS that are referenced as left or right, but by rotating the flash by 90 degrees gives you top and bottom (or anything in between). Since the flash can be rotated by any amount this gives a fair amount of flexibility.

There are several modes supported: full flash, left flash, right flash, or constant on. Additionally there are 7 output levels: full, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/64 that apply to all of the modes. This is all very easily controlled on the control unit which has a backlit LCD that is easy to read. There is a "pilot" button which I guess serves as a test flash.

This ring helps with macro photos. Although it is hard to keep on the camera lens as one moves the camera around.
