I had a Commodore 64 for about 11 years from 1986-1997. I had 2 different types, both the original keyboard style pictured here and a slimmer style that was a lighter shade of beige. This is what I learned to type, program and play games on. In my opinion it had the best graphics out of any computer system until the Pentium processors came out. The sprite graphics were much better looking than other comparable systems like the IBM-PC , Apple II and Tandy computers.

The entire computer system is inside the keyboard and it connects to a TV or monitor. The system boots up in 2-3 seconds and loading a game takes an average of around a minute from a floppy disk. Cartridge games load almost instantly, but programs saved to tape take 2-10 minutes, depending on where they are saved on the tape.

This is still my favorite computer system out of everything I have used, and the standard I use to evaluate new systems. My new PC may have better networking and graphics capabilities, but nothing compares to writing your own adventure game out of the back of Run Magazine and then adding your own tweaks or levels for maximum replay value. This is the computer I would use today if I could figure out how to solder an IDE connector and ethernet jack onto my old system.
