This review is from: Common Butterflies and Skippers of Eastern North America (DVD)
It's not HD and it's not the caliber of your typical Discovery Channel production, but this "independent" documentary video is crisp, clean, and well-narrated. Put together by Richard Walton and Greg Dodge, the video does a good job of covering the most common butterflies and skippers that you'll find east of the Rockies.

That's a big area, which means that many species will not appear in your range, and because there are so many Lepidoterans, not all of them can be covered. Even so, this video will surely help with identification, and in many cases it is better than field guidebooks because the subjects fill your screen and are seen from a variety of angles. The narration includes identification tips and occasional background information.

One important thing I appreciate about this production, unlike nature shows you see on television, is that the shots were all apparently taken in the field -- that means you're not getting studio fakery, recreations, or animated trickery. Real butterflies and skippers videotaped by real enthusiasts in natural settings. You can't beat that.
