5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful CD
I will admit that I'm not a big Wes King fan. Not sure why, but his cd's have never really captured me. But this is an exception. Song after song inspires and challenges me and I find myself singing these songs weeks after I last listened to them.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I bought 'Common Creed' after listening to 'Inventions' by Wes King, Scott Dente, and Phil Keaggy. I was expecting to hear Wes showcase his considerable guitar skills and some more of the diverse styles I heard on 'Invention."

Unfortunately the album was all vocal tracks, very pop oriented, and way too perky and one-dimensional for me. The music reminded me of...

I will admit that I'm not a big Wes King fan. Not sure why, but his cd's have never really captured me. But this is an exception. Song after song inspires and challenges me and I find myself singing these songs weeks after I last listened to them.

Wes covers wide range of topics here, but the lyrics never suffer. The melodies are what hold the cd together. Some of my favorites from this project are: "Life is Precious," "The Love of Christ," "Fisher of Men," "Salt of the Earth," and "Do You Tremble." But there really isn't a song on this cd I don't like.

This is a great cd to add to any Christian music collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some Standouts, Some CCM, October 5, 2008

This review is from: Common Creed (Audio CD)
This is a solid project and will certainly appeal to those oriented toward a contemporary sound. There are a number of songs that also work on a broader level (somewhat in the way Rich Mullins can pull off). As another reviewer says if you're looking for something that rocks you may be disappointed.

Track list:

Common Creed
Life is Precious
The Love of Christ
Mercy
Fisher of Men
Lazarus
Hold On
Salt of the Earth
He is the One
Do You Tremble

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, September 10, 2003

I bought 'Common Creed' after listening to 'Inventions' by Wes King, Scott Dente, and Phil Keaggy. I was expecting to hear Wes showcase his considerable guitar skills and some more of the diverse styles I heard on 'Invention."

Unfortunately the album was all vocal tracks, very pop oriented, and way too perky and one-dimensional for me. The music reminded me of Richard Marx from the eighties without the catchy melodies, as I think too much CCM stuff does. The lyrics were too bland. Nothing challenging or thought-provoking. I gave the album to my friend's mom a few days after I bought it.

I loved 'Invention' but Wes King's solo work, at least this album, is not in the same league. I wish I could find more Christian music that didn't sound so much Christian music is "supposed to sound."

Fans of CCM radio and specifcally Michael W. Smith should probably disregard my review. People looking for Christian music with more grit might want to look into Phil Keaggy or Glass Harp.
