Editorial Reviews

2009 sophomore release from the precocious St. Albans Trance-Metal tykes, the follow-up to their phenomenally successful 2007 debut Take To The Skies. Now blessed with a proper producer in the shape of Andy Gray (Korn, U2, Tori Amos), their genre-bending mashup luxuriates in beefy, crystal-clear sound, benefiting enormously as a result. Includes 'Antwerpen' and the single 'Juggernauts'. Warner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better, o YES!, June 27, 2009
This review is from: Common Dreads (Audio CD)
for the last year i was looking for some new energized music to satisfy me, but couldent find anything till my lil sister was telling me she saw a new Enter Shikari single on TV.
when i heard Enter Shikari got a new Album i was really excited, i loved the 1st one as ruff as it was.
with Common Dreads ES defiantly shows they matured and took their music to the next step.

with great tracks like "Step Up" "Juggernauts", "Zzzonked", "Antwerpen", "Hectic" and my favorite "The Jester" you just cannot deny the Energy ES are releasing. balanced out with their more "quite" tracks like "Wall", Havoc A and B, "No Sleep Tonight". Quality Quality Quality.

if you loved the 1st one, you gonna love this one, if you looking for some music with energy, this is it!

keep it up ES!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Album From Amazing Band!, January 24, 2011
This review is from: Common Dreads (Audio CD)
A few months ago I'd never heard of them, but Enter Shikari has quickly become one of my favorite bands.

While I was searching for the new Mike Patton album Mondo Cane (Dig) I stumbled across a British dance rock group named the Qemists who had done a fantastic track with Patton called "Lost Weekend" on their album Join the Q. The rest of the Qemists album was great, too, so in searching for more of their stuff I stumbled across a remix of the song called "No Sleep Tonight" that they did for another British band called Enter Shikari, on their album Tribalism. I liked that song enough that I checked out the original version as well and I was truly impressed with the whole album.

The songs showcase a variety of styles and influences and may jump from hardocore punk riffage to dubstep dance beats within the same song, but it never seems disjointed or thrown together. A perfect example is "Gap In The Fence," which starts out with a quiet acoustic guitar, and then naturally builds into a pulsing dance beat before climaxing in a heavy guitar section. Similarly, singer Rou Reynolds vocal styles go anywhere from melodic tones, to rousing sing-alongs to unhinged screaming but there is enough variety that it stays fresh.

Other standout tracks are the pair of album openers "Solidarity" and "Step Up", the keyboard-thrash of the single "Juggernauts," the slow-build of "Wall" which compels us to break down our boundaries because "It's glorious outside!", the hardcore "Antwerpen," the techno/industrial heaviness of "Zzzonked," the weird bookends of "Havoc A" and "Havoc B," the jazz meets hardcore of "The Jester...." Hell, the whole damn album is great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Big Follow Up To 'TAKE TO THE SKIES', January 25, 2012
By
This review is from: Common Dreads (Audio CD)
Common Dreads is the second release from UK band ENTER SHIKARI. Do not be mistaken, for this album far different from their debut album, Take To The Skies. Though what Common Dreads does bring to the table is a fresh new sound with less Techno and more of a UK Electronic sound and or dubstep. People say bands sophomore albums are the hardest to produce due to it being the follow up to usually an outstanding debut album. Enter Shikari is one of the few who defeated this saying by releasing an album that's different, but not totally off the wall from their first. Do not judge it from one or two listens. By about the fourth, maybe the fifth, the tunes will be bouncing around in your head, and the only way to relieve the throb is to listen to it; again, and again.
