This review is from: Commonality (Audio CD)
This CD has a companion DVD made during the recording, that shows the artists and the studio arrangement. An engaging and impressive exotic performance work that draws you in, as if you were present at the session. Highly recommended. Get the CD too because the audio quality is far superior.

5.0 out of 5 stars Provocatively Primal, February 14, 2006
This review is from: Commonality (Audio CD)
Reknowned Indonesian multi-instrumentalist Tony Prabowo helms this often witchy and unnerving voyage into his home islands' culture, during which disconnected chanting, sudden malevolent laughter and tangled shamanic voices conspire to totally unwire unprepared listeners. Prabowo and a talented ensemble of East-meets-West musicians infuse this recording with an underlying atmosphere of menace which is tangible and carefully detailed.

Rich with Indonesian folklore and improvisation, this frequently ominous and paranoia-inducing CD from 1999 mines areas of the human psyche where gods and monsters lurk. "Commonality" is provocatively primal without ever being numbing.
