Perfect for an ocean theme!,
This review is from: Commotion in the Ocean (Hardcover)
This book is an adorable addition to anyone's book collection. A different ocean animal is featured on each page. Along with the picture is a short poem about the animal. Children love the pictures and the rhyming text. Also check out Rumble in the Jungle by Giles Andreae. It has the same type of text and illustrations but involves jungle animals.Note to teachers: I use this with my ocean unit. Your students will ask you to read this over and over again. Trust me!

This beautifully illustrated book is full of fun poems that describe various animals that live in the ocean. It has rich vocabulary and is a great read-aloud!

My children love it, except it uses the word dumb at one point and mine know they aren't supposed to use that word.

Nice Book,

My fish loving 3 year old son really likes this book. He loves to look at the pictures and guess the fish at the end of the book. The only thing I don't like is the word "dumb" is used. That could have been left out since toddlers to repeat most everything they hear. I chose to buy it since it was recommended with Dinosaurumpus by Tony Mitton...now that book is absolutely awesome!

This is an excellent and delightful book! What a pleasure to read about ocean creatures instead of the usual farm animals. By age 3, my nephew could identify and chat about all the ocean going creatures in this book. It is one of his favorites. The pictures are beautiful and very colorful. I can't say enough great things about this book!

Fast, fun & colorful poems about the ocean animals for the pre-school set. Very simple, so if your child knows a lot about marine animals you may want something more detailed.

Dive Right In (but watch out for sharks!),
This review is from: Commotion in the Ocean (Paperback)
I'm not sure what the commotion is, but these short poems are the perfect length for preschoolers who love word play, are expanding their vocabulary, are fascinated with various animals, but lack the attention span for "more sophisticated" poetry. The poems feature different meters so it does mix things up a bit more than, say, "Green Eggs and Ham", and the illustrations are colorful and fun and only add to the enjoyment.
This is a fun, fun book. As a twist, the first time you read it, read the poem and have your child guess the animal (you'll have to replace the name of the animal in some of the poems with "I" or "we" to do this.)

"I want to read the ocean!",

I've been hearing this every night for weeks. I read this to my daughter and she loves it. We even look for the three starfish in each set of pages. She knows many fish, but some were new to her. This is one book I don't mind reading over and over.

Underwater fun!,

I bought this picture book as my daughter really enjoyed Rumble in the Jungle also by Giles Andreae. The large, colourful, fun illustrations are appealing to young children and the rhyming text gives reading aloud a rhythm of its own. The pictures informs the child to what the text is about.
I have recently written a children's fairy tale about a young princess's curiosity about a forest which leads her onto a magical journey, where she learns some truths about her role as a princess and her wits and bravery are put to the test. Princess Zaara and the Enchanted Forest

I bought this book since we loved "K is for Kissing a Cool Kangaroo". We were a bit disappointed as the story is very short and fluffy. I would not recommend this book for above 2.5 years. This book is not going to teach your little ones about ocean creatures. (Although it is fun to find the sea star on each page.)
