A good beginning,

This book is beautifully tailored to the needs of some one starting out to learn Chinese. The situations and vocabulary are so practical and useful. When you have mastered the material provided you will have good preparation for typical every day conversation. To master the material does require serious work with an able teacher.

Wonderful use of realia to introduce students to the variety of written chinese they will encounter. Great companion text for listening and speaking by same author. I have used this text in the univesity classroom for six years and love it!
