Verve Records announces a major find, a previously unreleased session of vintage work by Stan Getz, one of the giants of jazz history. 5.0 out of 5 stars All time favorite, January 11, 2009
This review is from: Communication 1972 (Audio CD)
I must say that I am a jazz enthusist at heart. I love Monk, Miles, Oscar, Tatum and all the greats. But, this album by Getz is something special. It has and aire to it that's unmatched by any other recording that I've listened to. It may be the arrangments by Michel LaGrande that captures the magic of this album. Nastalgic through and through. I was fortunate to find this album on line from a selling for the unbelievable price of ....$2.00. I know. I couldn't believe it either. This is my all time favorite jazz album to date. I miss Stan and his Sound...

5.0 out of 5 stars jazzman, November 3, 2008

One of my all time favorite Getz recordings originally released back in
the early 70's on Verve. The great Michel Legrand composed all of the
charts for this date and did all the arranging as well. He matches Getz
up with a large orchestra and a choir made up of the Swingle Singers
(including Legrand's sister). This cd release includes a longer version of
the title track than the original vinyl version, and the tunes (on my copy
anyway) are not in the same order as listed on the back cover (and the
original vinyl). Getz is AMAZING on this, and the writing for the large
ensemble with the voices and orchestra is brilliant. There's humor, sad-
ness, heartbreak, swing, adventure, drama, and an international flavor to
it. Some of the pieces could easily be interpreted as serious orchestral
concertos as well. It's a VERY cool, hip affair that sounds as fresh now
as it did back in the 70's. I also have the Japanese import cd version
of this that I paid megabucks for. Get the version under review here at
a bargain price while still available. It's Getz at his coolest, brilliant best
and a work of art for the ears, heart, and soul. Recorded in Paris and
still fabulous - magnificent sounding. VERY sophisticated and gorgeous.
5 billion stars for the recording and all the stars in the universe for the
genius Getz.
