A Nice Kick in the Teeth,
By
This review is from: Communication & Conviction: Last Seven Years (Audio CD)
For fans of earily Pogues, Shane MacGowan's solo works, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys..., we introduce to you The Tossers. 'Communication' is comprised of their two long out of print and much sought after releases 'The Pint of No Return' and 'We'll Never Be Sober Again' plus 3 extra tracks. Hailing from Chicago, these lads (and occasionally lady) mix traditional Irish tunes with punk/drunk rock attitude reminiscent of the Pogues pre-1986. 21 blistering tracks including beautiful kick-in-the-teeth covers of "Young Ned of the Hills" and "Irish Rover" (live at the Metro). A highly recommended someday classic. Slainte!

Wonderful stuff! I truly think these Chicago boys are the best players I've heard since the Pogues. Don't get me wrong, I dig Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, The Popes, etc., but these guys are more traditional sounding, and they definitely have that attitude. Another plus is the spoken intros/commentaries by some old black guy who sounds like and old time bluesman. These are hilariously funny, it's too bad there aren't more of them on this CD. Anyway, check it out, and remember, MANDOLIN RULES, BABY!!
Peace...

great collection,

this is a great album and a collection of their work from the first 7 years they were together. It has that wonderful youthful feel to it and every song is perfect. This is just celtic music done in the pogues style. They were doing this style even before the fushion of 77 punk and celtic music became popular, pick this up, its simply great
