A Nice Kick in the Teeth,
By
This review is from: Communication & Conviction: Last Seven Years (Audio CD)
For fans of earily Pogues, Shane MacGowan's solo works, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys..., we introduce to you The Tossers. 'Communication' is comprised of their two long out of print and much sought after releases 'The Pint of No Return' and 'We'll Never Be Sober Again' plus 3 extra tracks. Hailing from Chicago, these lads (and occasionally lady) mix traditional Irish tunes with punk/drunk rock attitude reminiscent of the Pogues pre-1986. 21 blistering tracks including beautiful kick-in-the-teeth covers of "Young Ned of the Hills" and "Irish Rover" (live at the Metro). A highly recommended someday classic. Slainte!

Wonderful stuff! I truly think these Chicago boys are the best players I've heard since the Pogues. Don't get me wrong, I dig Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, The Popes, etc., but these guys are more traditional sounding, and they definitely have that attitude. Another plus is the spoken intros/commentaries by some old black guy who sounds like and old time bluesman. These are hilariously funny, it's too bad there aren't more of them on this CD. Anyway, check it out, and remember, MANDOLIN RULES, BABY!!
Peace...

this is a great album and a collection of their work from the first 7 years they were together. It has that wonderful youthful feel to it and every song is perfect. This is just celtic music done in the pogues style. They were doing this style even before the fushion of 77 punk and celtic music became popular, pick this up, its simply great

I first found out about The Tossers when they played here about a year ago and I have been hooked ever since. This compact disc is absolutely stunning. At first seeing they covered "Young Ned Of The Hill" I was a bit doubtful thinking to myself "Who has the sheer audacity to think THEY can cover THE POGUES?!" but as I listened they covered it with the same strength and energy that The Pogues did back in the day. Toney Duggin's vocals are that of any drunken Irish boy's, loud, charismatic, and full of soul. From the high 'n lively "Tell me ma" to the slow ballad of "Everything's bad" The Tossers show style, flare, and a downright good time.

hey boozers,

quintessential drinking music. if you like to have a great time and feel good while getting faded. put this cd in. if you like to get rowdy while getting faded put this in. if you like to get reflective while getting faded put this in. do that enough times, then go to a live show and get the real vibe. this cd does a great job of conveying it though.

BLAMit's good. they kinda messed up "finnegan's wake" but they redeemed themselves with "irish rover." most of the songs are pretty good. one or two [stink]. there's quit a few that seem a little incomplete. like they could use an accordian or tin whistle or something. there's intros to most of the first 8 songs in case you care. but i like 'em and think they're funny. they cuss more than most celtic rock bands, which i really like, and they are pretty fast compared to a lot of other ones. if i could have, i would have given this CD a 4 1/2, but i'm a mean guy and decided to round down. :P

A great album, something for anybody who loves a good pint. This isn't a clean, original, brilliant album; it's raw passion and fun. My words don't do it much justice; just buy it, get drunk, share a laugh and sing along. Then you'll understand...
