This review is from: Communication Skills That Heal: A Practical Approach to a New Professionalism in Medicine (Paperback)
I began this book thinking it would describe how practitioners can use communication to their help patients heal -- to, as much as is possible, restore patients (or help start them on the path) to health and wellbeing. And it does. What it also does, however, is address the important issue of health practitioners' health and wellbeing. This is important, the author says, because practitioners who are not at peace with themselves cannot help their patients to become so. What makes his take on all this credible is that, as a physician, he well understands and values the training of doctors. He speaks the language. As such, he is able to present his case in a way that is not only convincing, but helpful. Health practioners who read this book will find valuable insights and practical tips for moving both themselves and their patients along the path to wellness.
