This review is from: Communications Cabling (Paperback)
Communications Cabling is the Bible for understanding the wiring which connects one electronic device to another or to a network. Lavishly and clearly illustrated, the book features step-by-step procedures for making custom cables, including standards and precautions. A must-have for anyone involved in networking or data comm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful, December 18, 2003
This review is from: Communications Cabling (Paperback)
Good cabling is one of the most important aspects of all networks and telecom backbones. I've had this book for years and whenever I need to start tipping and terminating cable I refer to it. It is a quick and easy guide and has everything you need to know about cabling. It has over 200 pictures and step by step instructions with pictures on the most common connector types. It is a good book to have around and can get you out of a serious jam if you need to tip a cat 5 cable in a hurry. I can never remember the color sequence so having this book around has really helped me. Along with instructions it also covers basic theory about data transmission and network architecture explanations. The appendix is pretty useful as well. Appendix A has all sorts of contact information on companies in the networking and cabling business (including websites). I am somewhat of an acronym nut and Appendix E has a really good Acronym Dictionary. If you are in the telecom industry, a LAN Admin or do any kind of cabling (voice or data) this is the book to have in your desk drawer.

I bought this book to figure out basic twisted pair wiring. This book not only gives you info about that but also every basic thing you need to know about networking and physically making connections on most anything out there in an easy to understand format. It's packed with step-by-step instructions and pictures on all connections you'l probably need to make. If you need to get a lot of basic info on telecommunications/networking in a hurry and need a nice reference book, this is it. If you want to get a whole lot deeper in the subject check out these two books: 'Cabling the Complete Guide to Network Wiring' and ' The Cabling Handbook'.
