For courses in Community Policing or Police-Community Relations. Unique in perspective and comprehensive in coverage, this text provides an exceptionally up-to-date and scholarly synthesis of the collective nationwide experience in implementing both community policing and problem-oriented policing. It explains the processes and terms in detail--what they mean and how they are applied, as well as how they are implemented and evaluated. It explores both historical and operational perspectives, and provides examples of existing strategies and future considerations.

Review

"I like the fact that both authors are practitioners in the field of law enforcement. I believe that the text covers the necessary material; I like the balance of the book." — David Graff, Jr., Kent State University-Tuscarawas, OH

"This book provides some excellent examples and should be available in Police Department libraries for reference." — Bruce Smith, Ohio University-Chillicothe

"Community Policing and Problem Solving is one of the best textbooks on the subject. Does a good job of providing clear simple and understandable language." — William Parks, University of South Carolina-Spartanburg

From the Publisher

This text was written in response to a need for a book that combines both community-policing and problem-oriented policing concepts. These are relatively new concepts now being employed by innovative police agencies worldwide. This book explains the processes and terms, what they mean and how they are applied, as well as how they are implemented and evaluated. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than most Community Policing texts, December 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am now preparing for the Lieutenant's promotional exam and this is required reading. My department has frequently changed the community policing textbook so this is the third book on the subject I've been forced to read. By far, this is the best book of the three. It is not insulting or too much of the "hug a thug" mentality. It is well written and organized. I can't foresee anyone reading it for pleasure or casual reading, but it's not too painful if you must read it.
