5.0 out of 5 stars Community Service just keeps getting better and better!
I purchased this cd the day it came out. If you like the first community service album, this one blows it away. There is not one slow track on this disk. TCM is coming through my town and I cannot wait to go see them! If you are a Doors fan, this CD is a must for their Roadhouse Blues Remix.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dark and deep cuts characterize this mix, August 1, 2005
This review is from: Community Service 2 (Audio CD)
Crystal Method showed us their skills as DJs in addition to producing on their 2001 mix, "Community Service", They're back at it with this offering, and they don't disappoint! Rising stars like Evil Nine and Elite Force feature alongside "names" you may recognize like Koma + Bones and Meat Katie. The breaks are relentless, not slowing until the final cut, and the track selection and transitions are excellent. The disc is worth hearing for several reasons: Like their last mix, TCM serves to expose you to new talented producers that you might enjoy hearing more from. Also, this is the place to get the unreleased Crystal Method track "Kalifornia" (which has a dark, urban feel similar to the style of both Vegas and Tweekend), as well as their awesome rocking remix of the Doors' "Roadhouse Blues" and a respectable take on New Order's classic "Bizarre Love Triangle". The only down moment comes in the form of the final cut, New Originals' remix of the Smashing Pumpkins' "1979", which borrows extensively from the original without adding anything special or new, and is also the most subdued track on the mix...a necessary come-down from the beats?

4.0 out of 5 stars BEEzare Love Triangle, April 9, 2005
This review is from: Community Service 2 (Audio CD)
Just wanted to say I was hesitant about buying this CD because though I love electronic music...sometimes lately its' hit and miss. The CD is full of energy and beauty. Fans of Crystal Method's grooves will not be disappointed. But, what if you are a fan of Smashing Pumpkins or New Order only (two tracks mixed on this CD). Both Smashing Pumpkins "1979" and New Orders "Bizarre Love Triangle" are bait for fans of both bands because they are two of best songs in an awespiring catelog of music. I kept checking these reviews hoping somebody would comment on these two mixes. On this CD the lyrics are pretty much axed on the pumpkins "1979" but the song is cool just barely any of the lyrics make the cut. Whereas, if you are a fan of New Order the Crystal Method saves the day with a mesmerizing mix of Bizarre Love Triangle with all the lyrics in tact. The album is non-stop energy and though I hoped all lyrics would be in the 1979 mix. The New Order Track is worth the price of the CD alone for fans of New Order/Joy Division. I blindly bought the CD and rode away gleaming with the mix and killer Crystal Method tracks. Hope those in doubt but fans of the two bands find this review useful.

their second worst cd. the beats are too fast, the vocals are distracting and annoying, a slapdash production, the drum beats are pedestrian. i recommend crystal method's tweekend, vegas, london soundtrack, legion of boom and even "now is the time" from their millenium remix but this cd simply sucks. it should have never been released; it just slings mud on their reputation. the best of crystal method is dark and has atmosphere; not one cut on this cd works for me. wish i could say something nice, but SAVE YOUR MONEY - or if you don't have one of the above cds, buy them instead. who wants music without 1. a good groove 2. a good melody 3. good vocals 4. some kind of atmosphere?

5.0 out of 5 stars They've done their "Community Service" well, May 10, 2005

The Los Angeles DJ duo, the Crystal Method, have just released a follow up to their 2002 mixed album, "Community Service." Scott Kirkland and Ken Jordan's latest album, "Community Service II," is boss! It has great mixing, awesome beats, and a nice selection of club tunes. I'm never embarassed to play this out in public.

There are 16 tracks on this mixed compilation (including an intro track). Songs include Uberzone's "Octopus." I like how this track sounds like an undersea laboratory song. I wish it were longer though. It's only less than three minutes long. There's also Evil Nine's "We Have the Energy." It's one of my favorites on here. It's wicked! I could work out to this song and go non-stop. Even if it were an hour long song instead of five minutes, the length of the track on this CD, I still won't stop. I should request this song to be played at the local gym I go to. The New Originals' 1799 Remix of the Smashing Pumpkins' "1979" is also in this mix. I used to listen to the original "1979" from 1996 very often. I loved this track. Looking at the tracklist, I didn't know what to expect from this remade version till I listened to it. The middle of the track had the lyrics, "Shakedown 1979," sung over and over nine times. It doesn't beat the original, but it's still a nice track overall. There are other remade tracks on this compilation like New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle," and The Doors' "Roadhouse Blues." The new version of "Roadhouse Blues" is referred to as "The Crystal Method vs. The Doors (Roadhouse Blues Remix)" by The Doors. When I go over to the RV lot at the New Hampshire International Speedway this July, I'm going to play this track at full blast! I have the very urge to do it because this tune gets me pumped, and I wanna be pumped for the Nextel Cup's New England 300 up there. "SpeedFreak" by Koma + Bones could also work for the race that weekend. "The question is not 'When he's gonna stop.' But 'Who's gonna stop him?'" Other tracks featured in the mix are "Come With Me" by Hyper, "Ghetto Fabulous" by Elite Force, the Crystal Method's "Kalifornia," and "Keep Hope Alive," U.N.K.L.E.'s "Reign (False Prophet Mix)," and more.

This album is just what I needed to get me through summer. This CD's excellent! I should see what "CSIII" would be like if it ever comes into existance.

If you are a fan of techno/trance/dance, this music will not disappoint you. The first track sets the pace and you are taken on a journey that culminates with one of the best tracks on the album, 1979. There are 1-2 selections in the middle that I thought were boring but, overall, this album is a gem.
Buy it and you will keep it playing as I do. Never mind the neighbours--Its crystal method!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars If there is such a method, it IS the Crystal Method...., May 1, 2005
This review is from: Community Service 2 (Audio CD)
How surprised was I to see a new release for TCM when browsing amazon! Went right out and bought it that night and has not left my CD player since. I first thought it was slow in picking up, but once track 5 hit (The Doors), it caught me.....and then track 6 was just sick.....one of my favorite tracks on this album. After that, the rest flowed consistently running thru track 16 (pumpkins) which is a very nice remix of 1979! There isn't really much I can tell you except to get the album. It is a GREAT compilation and especially following the great Community Service 1 album, it won't disappoint. Also, if you ever get a chance to see these guys on tour, by all means, get a ticket. I went to the Legion of Boom tour last year and the remixes of Busy Child and Keep Hope Alive was unlike anything I can put into words. Needless to say, the energy was felt!!!! Can't wait for TCM's new album to hit again! Keep it up guys!

5.0 out of 5 stars LA beat-fiends working the local vinyl kitchen, April 22, 2005
This review is from: Community Service 2 (Audio CD)
Nice.

Solid disc, plenty of known tracks given a sonic doctoring and some quality mixing.

The Method are fantastic live whether they do their own material, or DJ at a club. Great attitude, great atmosphere wherever they show up.

I think it's a stronger release than the first Community Service, the appearance of the awesome Hyper, who opened for TCM on their tour in 2004, is very welcome. The appearance of New Order, appropriate and well done.

If you know their sound, and what they're capable of doing, this is definitely recommended. Nothing terrible obscure, but beginning-to-end this will be a great spring-summer disc. If you thought Legion of Boom was a letdown (I don't know why, but so many people think so) don't hesitate to take TCM back.

Great cover by the way...yes, they do community service by spooning out vinyl beats. Better than serving time...

let me start buy saying i love these guys. but (yaaaaawn) the new disc is a little boring. it's ok, but imho these guys are stagnating a little. my point of reference for getting into this duo was a bit unusual- my first tcm disc was community service 1 which i loved. i then bought the rest of the catalog and enjoy almost everything they do. the last studio album, however, was a bit predictable and so is this, i'm afraid. i've only listened to it through a few times, so maybe i should have let it sink in more. no doubt, there are always a few crazy awesome sounds on every tcm effort and this is no exception. this is NOT better than cs1 though. if you're a diehard tcm fan, then buy it, download it or whatever, if you're new then get vegas and cs1. their live show is probably the best way to experience them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressive, a great addition to any music collection, April 6, 2011
This review is from: Community Service 2 (Audio CD)
As a long time listener of TCM, I have always enjoyed them. I just recently heard this album and was blown away by it. The vocals are solid and with artists like The Doors, Uberzone, New Order, Smashing Pumpkins, etc, how can you go wrong?! The beats are clean, the hooks and builds are catchy. Overall, I am impressed as usual with their skills and musical taste. My only regret is that I didn't find this album sooner!
