When I moved to Brooklyn NY and saw how bike-friendly it was, i decided to get one. I shopped around and decided on the "cruiser" type step-through bike (so I could wear a skirt!) You should know $500 is the minimum you can pay to get a decent bike (I think). I got down to the Public C7 (a little top-heavy) and the Globe Daily 2 (nice ride, but $660 and only came in boring blue and silver). Then i found the Biria. I couldn't believe it was only $500. It was a super-comfy ride, a great upright position. Here are the things you get in this bike that you have to pay extra for on other bikes:
1. Front and rear rack (same colors as your frame!)
2. a cute bell
3. Fenders (again, same color!)
4. Chain guard, so you don't have to worry about getting your legs/clothes dirty!

And happily the Citibike comes in many cute colors: yellow, red, bright blue, olive, and my favorite: CREAM! It also comes with a bell. How cute is that?
I rode it home from the bike store (6 miles) and even in my out of shape condition, it was a breeze. The following weekend I rode to a part (12 miles round trip) and again it was just a dream to ride.

I can't say enough good things about this bike.

Two things to mention though:
1. the seat (mounted on springs) started squeaking right away. Am hoping WD40 will take care of this.
2. I bought a giant Kryptonite lock to protect it here in NY. But it's not wide enough to go through both the frame AND the back wheel. It is SO CLOSE but just doesn't make it. So if you live somewhere you need to lock this bike up, be sure and get the heavy duty chain instead.

I bought this bike cheaper in the store (even with tax), but I had to chime in because there is only one review. This is a GREAT bike! I have only had it for about ten days but I am a bike person. I use my bike as a car so I have to have one that can haul stuff and yet still be comfy enough to take a day trip for pleasure.

Pictures don't do justice for products sometimes and this is one prime example. This bike is a BEAUTY. It has garnered lots of oohs and ahhhs and double-takes. The color looks blue on here but is a divine aqua (which is just what I had hoped for). The frame is steel, in case some have assumed it was aluminum. Having had aluminum before, I can honestly say this is almost as light. Also, remember that the old 10-speed Schwinns were steel and look how long they last (I have one!).

Any downsides? I can't really think of any. The bell could have been better (but I didn't even know it came with one!) and it seems a little...long. Like it's not the sort of bike I'd bring on public transit. I don't know if the front rack contributes to this feeling but it's a minor quibble.

The last new bike I bought was 9 years ago with a similar step-through frame and it had a few cheap components that irritated me, specifically the plastic brake levers (which promptly snapped off) and this Biria has METAL brake handles. Gotta love those little details. Manfacturers also tend to chintz on the kickstand (crappy plastic that barely holds its weight) but this is a heavy-duty kickstand. It's been a little tricky to get it in place but when I get one of my free adjustments, I plan to address this issue.

You really can't do wrong with this bike, I would say! I wanted to give my opinion to help those of you who are like I was two weeks ago. Hope I've helped. I would advise you to let the professionals completely assemble it. I bought mine from a store so that was not an issue for me. Happy trails!
