A MYTHICAL REBIRTH,
By
This review is from: Como Nace El Universo (Audio CD)
Gloria Trevi's new contribution to the music world is stronger than any of her previous works. The lyrics, vocals and acoustic sets are honest, staightforward and powerful. The hauntingly beautiful and dramatic "Horas Tranquilas" alone is worth the price of this album. But there are plenty of goodies here: with the fun, high-energy "Nieve de Mamey" La Trevi once again has her way with the machos of America and manages to shock even those of us who were familiar with her rebellious and unpredictable nature. Considering her recent situation, it's a fantastic thing to realize: Gloria Trevi is having fun.
Among other things, La Trevi addresses love, family, the social reality of Mexico, the loss of her daughter (the sad, hopeful and beautifully sung "Timbres Postales al Cielo"), lust, ambition, and in a magnificient closing number, the human will to survive in the face of adversity: "En Medio de la Tempestad" is Gloria's way of inviting us to fearlessly brave the storm and walk into a brighter tomorrow, with a smile on our face and not a trace of doubt. Gloria's compositions, her words when interviewed, and her total and direct connection with the public and herself when performing paint a clear picture of her nature: she is the real thing, a bona fide artist. She is never, ever, ever pretending to be something she's not, a habit that her contemporaries (think Thalía, Paulina Rubio, etc.) engage in as standard practice. Gloria Trevi is who she is, original, unabashed and unapologetic. She has lived Dante's Divine Comedy, and it shows: through her personal hell the woman has gained wisdom and strenght, and oddly, the tremendous injustice she suffered has not made her grown bitter or lose even a fragment of the spice, power and magic that led her to conquer the masses in the first place. This album showcases it all, untouched and ready for us to dive into. When Gloria Trevi was unjustly incarcerated it literally felt like a major fragment of Latin American pop culture went to prison with her. It's disturbing to hear that she had to wait in jail for five years until all the factors came into play for her innocence to be proven. The ongoing success of this album gives us hope, and her vindication is our own: we have been given back that which was taken from us by the disorganized and donwright frightening judicial system of Latin America. "Cómo Nace el Universo" is, as one of my friends called it, a real life happy ending.

A masterpiece,
By
This review is from: Como Nace El Universo (Audio CD)
Nine years after her last album and just three months after being freed from her unfair 5 year stay in jail, Gloria Trevi comes back to music with her best album yet. Gloria left bad moments behind, picked up her experiencies and reflects her growth through 12 songs that go from rock to pop to sweet ballads. Her voice sounds stronger than ever, and she is still rebellious, untamed (listen to "el domador"), angry, sweet and nostalgic at the same time. She dedicates tracks to her son ("Como nace el universo)", Sergio Andrade ("Eres un santo"), machismo ("Nieve de mamey"), presidents ("Senor presidente"), her mother ("Metida hasta el cuello"), her late daughter ("Timbres postales al cielo") and even jail ("Horas tranquilas"). This is probably her most biographical album to date and definitley her best.

What a dream, new Gloria music,

If in 2003 I was told that next year I would see Gloria Trevi free AND hear a new album, I would have laughed and said "Yeah right". What a crazy year this has been, as we have seen a lunatic gun-happy president destroy this country and re-elected, and now, Gloria Trevi free and back in full form, after we all thought her to be forever enclausterated.
"Como Nace El Universo" marks the return of Gloria Trevi to music. After all that was said and done, we cannot deny that Gloria was and still is a tortured artist who verbalized her pain in song for our amusement and observations. This CD is no exeption to her adventurous legacy. Produced by Armando Avila, the album is everything that is Gloria, rough, disorganized and beautifully painful. Once she cried of mistreatment and deceit, today, nothing has changed. The characters may have come and gone, but Gloria is forever probing herself and producing material that will entice all to probe themselves. From longing for love from the wrong person ("Eres Un Santo" "Volveria A Buscarte") to her typical blunt male views ("Nieve De Mamey"), Gloria once again makes an album that is a mirror, where everyone can see a part of themselves. Spending 5 years in jail have not broken Gloria at all. Whether she was guilty at all, the question was never about her music and that is where I think people will have difficulty in separating the two. I hope for the best for Gloria, for I have much more respect to her artistry now, for having the courage to smile at the world when public opinion would rather spit in her face. Music needs her.

WOW!,

Before there was scrutiny surrounding the crazy lives of stars such as Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan. There was Gloria Trevi. A tremendously talented and beautiful woman who can triumphantley hold the trophy for one of the most twisted and hectic life of any artist in music history. From her rise to the top, and to her personal downfalls. The twisted and convlouted life of the infamous Gloria Trevi has always been know to her public, but there is no shame in that, since her powerful and prevailing music has always been able to overshadow that, and plus it just added to her rebell without a cause reputation that she was famous for.
Como Nace El Universo (How The Universe Is Born) is a beautiful masterpiece that is written by a heart that has honestly bled and walked a million miles: The one and only Trevi. The album starts off with the title track. A beautiful, near-orgasmic 5 minute experiance. The song explains the love and infatuation the moon has toward the sun, And how much she will love him, even though he doesn't feel the same way about her. The chorus alone is a thing to behold. /Pues la Luna como ninguna lo quiere/Y la Luna como ninguna esta con el/Pues la Luna como ninguna se le entrega/Y le hace frente a lo que sea/Solo la Luna como ninguna/Lo quiere bien/ Other beautiful tracks include "Timbres Postales Al Cielo" an extraordinary & heartwrenching homage to those who have already left this planet. It's definatley a pure and magnificent listening experience that will put tears in your eyes, and "Horas Tranquilas" is a stunningly orchastrated song dedicated to "the one that got away" /me encierro en mi cuarto/y un fantasma loco me jura tu amor/vlovere a buscarte un dia/me lo dice el alma/ella no mentiria/ it's completley haunting! No other song has promised eternal and unfailing love like that of "En Medio de la Tempestad" just take a listen /en medio de la tempestad/en contra de la furia del mar/y los de los quatro elementos/yo no voy a fayar/yo estoy aqui/ The lyrics and vocal arrangements are completley phenomenal. Como Nace... also finds Gloria economically and politically conscious on tracks such as "Senor Presidente","La Nota Roja", and "Sexo y Dinero". Sr. Presidente is a short & humble little gem that will stirr up even your most deepest emotions /Senor Presidente/yo quiero pedirle prfavor que pavimenten las calles de mi barrio/como donde vive usted/. Sexo y Dinero ephasizes the fact that our world is turning into where everything is ran by sex and money- this is one of those songs that is so strange and unusual that just captivates you out of nowhere, and La Nota Roja is an amazing imput that can powerfully stand on its own in this already gorgeously crafted album. Other honorable mentions include "Eres un Santo", "Metida hasta el Cuello" and the all-out-in-your-face-don't-mess-with-me rocker "El Domador". If you want to find out what makes Gloria Trevi a strong and formidable affair, listen to that number, the song explains it all /y haber quien se atreve/y entren cuantos pueden/y haber si me dejo/tratar como un vil animal. And the chorus alone is something to leave you in awe. /Que se ponga el domador en frente de mi/que se ponga el domador enfrente de mi/ahora que corra/que corra/que corra/si es que quiere vivir!/ Overall Como Nace El Universo is one of the best releases in a long time. the music, the lyrics, and the vocals are phenomenal. A definate must-buy!

QUE VIVA LA TREVI!!!!!!,

This review is from: Como Nace El Universo (Audio CD)
You know, I was expecting something more from this album. Maybe more dark? More experimental?? I don't know exactly but i was expecting something more.
I felt that way at first but now the album has grown on me. Gloria has decided to sound more optimistic in her new songs and that's not a bad thing. Yes she does talk about what's been going on with her lately but more indirectly. It works! I always thought of Gloria as a groundbreaking artist in the latin pop market. And she does continue in that way with this new album even without sergio andrade. I could also pick up some similarities on this new album from her past work with andrade and that's a good thing because that means that sergio wasn't 100% in command. Gloria had her hand in there as well. Highlights are como nace el universo, eres un santo, senor presidente (a song that should be played to every president in every country in this world), horas tranquilas, el domador, sexo y dinero, and en medio de la tempestad. Overall, this is a good album and La Trevi wears her heart on her sleeve... as always!

I bought this album today, and at first I was not used to the sound. The essence of Gloria Trevi is in the album, but she breaks new ground exploring dance music. Her voice is better than ever, and the lyrics are deep. After listening to it a few times, I got used to it, and found it is an excellent product. My favorite song is "Como nace el universo" , the analogy of the moon and the sun is fantastic, and when I think of it, seems like she is explaining how her son was born, the meeting of the moon and the sun hiding from the night, having as a product the birth of the Universe for her. I also like "Eres un santo", "Nieve de mamey", "Timbres postales al cielo", "Sexo y dinero" and "En medio de la tempestad. I hope people can appraciate her musical growth with this album. I highly recommend it!

Gloria really let's her music talk in this new release. Even her image has shown how much she has changed. Here's my breakdoen of the songs on the album...
Como Nace El Universo- I wouldn't have picked this song as the opening for the album. It's a nice soothing song to listen to. Not my favorite. 3/5 Eres Un Santo- I love this song. My favorite on the album. I think this song is one of her best ever. It has awesome lyrics, and great music to go with it. 5/5 Nieve de Mamey- This song takes me back to her old music. I don't like it because I don't think it goes with the album. This is supposed to be a new album with a new sound and this song doesn't cut it. 2/5 Senor Presidente- Nice soothing song. Not the best. 3/5 Metida Hasta El Cuello- I like this song. It's a nice song to cruise too and just sing along to. Great lyrics. 4/5 Timbres Postales Al Cielo- Beautiful song. Enough said. 4/5 Horas Tranquilas- This song is awesome. I love the arrangement and mood of this song. Very mysterious. I love it. 5/5 La Nota Roja- I don't really like this song. Too much like her old stuff. 2/5 El Domador- It's a fun sexy song to listen to. Catchy! 3/5 Sexo y Dinero- This song is awesome. I like the whole sex sounding music. Very catchy, and her voice sounds cool. 4/5 Poder y Fama- This song needs some work. Reminds me of this old song she did. 2/5 En Medio de la Tempestad- This song is beautiful. She really shows her vocals at the beginning. Loving it. 5/5 Overall, this album is a deffinate growth. She's destined to many more hits. Go Gloria!!!! I averaged my ratings and the album gets 3.5 Stars
