4.0 out of 5 stars Mouthwatering!!!
This is such a FUN book. It is a story about love, deception, family, tradition and... COOKING!

I fell in love with the characters, and was very happy to see leading ladies everywhere!

It was also very nice to be able to have a quick look at old fashioned recipes, and understand the process of creating them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Imaginativo e historico...

5.0 out of 5 stars El mejor libro en espanol que he leido, March 5, 2000
ME ENCANTO MUCHISIMO. LEANLO!

4.0 out of 5 stars Un libro muy especial, December 12, 2001

This review is from: Como agua para chocolate (Vintage Espanol) (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)

COMO AGUA PARA CHOCOLATE is an EXCELLENT book. It is easy to read, clear and understandible. It took me 8 hours to read and I enjoyed it every single second. It is such a good work of art that I will read it over and over again! Those that didn't like it, don't appreaciate cultural differences.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Mexican Cinderella Story, April 30, 2003
This review is from: Como agua para chocolate (Vintage Espanol) (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
Imaginatively told, romantic and sensual - this is a Latin-style fairy tale for adults only. Tita, our heroine, has a life of work & misery, caused by her mother who is cruel beyond reason to her and has brainwashed her since birth into believing that the youngest daughter must remain a spinster and take care of her mother for ever. Fortunately Tita is blessed with magical cooking skills that allow her to attract lovers and cast many types of spells over the people that consume her dishes, amazing events occur all around her. Tita is not the only talented member of the family either, her sisters are notable personalities as well.

I recommend this as a light & funny escape from reality.

5.0 out of 5 stars a fascinating story, January 11, 2001
By

(REAL NAME)
I found this story so fascinating that I could hardly wait to get home after work every day so I could read more of it. It has an unusual structure. The book is divided into 12 chapters, each of which starts with a traditional Mexian recipe. The memories evoked by the odor or taste of an ingredient lead the narrator to the next stage of the story. Likewise, events in the story lead to asides where the narrator discusses home remedies, superstitions, other recipes, etc. The plot contains magical elements. Basically, the story is realistic, but every once in a while something impossible happens. I realize that this style is not to everyone's taste, so I'm warning you here. On the practical side: I took two years of Spanish at university, and I was able to read, and enjoy, this book in Spanish. In fact, it is the first Spanish book I have ever read. I recommend it to other students of Spanish looking for a good book on which to try out their reading skills.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great novel and movie! Wonderful story of passionate love!, June 26, 1999
By A Customer
I read this novel (and watched the movie) for a college research paper, and I thouroughly enjoyed both. It is a fascinating and somewhat erotic story about love, passion, rebellion, sacrifice, and great food! I recommend it, it's a must read! You also must see the movie to make everything come to life!

5.0 out of 5 stars La pasion latina en su apogeo, August 17, 2001
By
Francheska M. (San Juan, PR United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Como agua para chocolate (Vintage Espanol) (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)

5.0 out of 5 stars !La receta para exito!, April 20, 1997
By A Customer
5. Recomienda el libro a otra persona!
