Most of their music in one box, June 10, 2009

This box contains the original albums Ticket to ride, Close to you, Carpenters, A song for you, Now and then, Horizon, A kind of hush, Passage, Made in America, Voice of the heart and Lovelines, each on its own CD, together with a CD of Christmas music. Titled Christmas portrait, the Christmas CD is actually a compilation of their two Christmas albums (An old-fashioned Christmas, Christmas portrait). With 21 tracks, it includes most of their Christmas music, but if you want the albums in their entirety, there is a double CD titled Christmas collection, which contains both albums on separate CD's.
Apart from the omitted Christmas tracks, Carpenters completists will notice the absence of solo recordings by Richard and Karen. Also, some material has been unearthed in more recent years, beginning with Trying to get the feeling again, which first appeared on the Interpretations compilation, but has appeared elsewhere since. So this doesn`t include the entire catalog of Carpenters music, but it contains the vast majority of the music that they recorded together.
This boxed set was released as a numbered limited edition. I don't know what the limit was, but my copy is number 1241. I like the presentation, which includes notes by Richard and other comments by Ray Coleman, together with a collection of pictures but not of the original album artwork. A foldout spread contains all the track listings.
At the time that this boxed set was released, I don't think the individual albums were all available separately in Britain, though maybe some were; I can`t remember. I had plenty of money in those days so I took my opportunity to buy this box, saving me the effort of having to look out for the individual albums.
