Editorial Reviews

Review

‘...simply the best 'field-guide' to environmental philosophy anywhere. Dale Jamieson has assembled an insightful set of chapters - the topics are well chosen, the writing is crisp, and the thinking is compelling. The volume is also historically informed, theoretically rich, multicultural, and practical - all especially appreciated strengths.’ William S. Lynn, The Hastings Center, Garrison, NY

‘Featuring both first-rank scholars and superb new scholarship, this volume reflects well the many ways in which environmental philosophy not only pervades, but is also touched by, ancient and modern concerns.’ Paul Waldau, Tufts University

This review is from: A Companion to Environmental Philosophy (Blackwell Companions to Philosophy) (Paperback)
On a difficult subject, A Companion to Environmental Philosophy gives an enlightened view about the cultural, ethics, and pluridisciplinary aspects of environment.
Complete, this precise book is divided into chapters corresponding to the different concepts of themes linked to Environmental Philosophy. With different authors for each chapter, the subtilities of the different points of views are easily captured.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to the field, March 4, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: A Companion to Environmental Philosophy (Blackwell Companions to Philosophy) (Paperback)
This is an anthology of essays on environmental thinking. The topics covered range from the history of viewing the environment in diverse cultures and times(Indigenous populations, India, China, Christianity etc. to various scientific and philosophical modes of treating environmental aspects (Ecology, Deep Ecology, Aesthetics, Populations, Law, Climate etc.) Although as in any anthology the essays vary in quality and usefulness, on the whole it is a very good over-view of the issues and the field. All the essays have in depth bibliographies and almost all the authors have an internet link listed if you wish to contact them for furher information. Recommended.
