Book Description

December 19, 1996 Companions
The "mutiny" of 1857 is probably the best-known event within the history of modern India. It marked the transition from trade to formal imperial rule over India by Britain. This Companion sets out all that is known about every event, incident, battle, character, leader, anecdote, and rumor that is pertinent to 1857. The Companion's 1,500 main entries include 200 anecdotes (which provide a human dimension to this catalog of warfare, violence, and resistance), together with detailed biographical entries on the chief protagonists, both Indian and English.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good information but with a politically correct bias, June 1, 1998

This review is from: A Companion to the "Indian Mutiny" of 1857 (Companions) (Hardcover)
The Indian Mutiny first became the "Great Sepoy Rebellion" now it becomes the "1857-58 Indian Freedom Movement". The Indian Mutiny was correctly titled at the time. It was a mutiny and India did not then exist. It is unfortunate to see the revisionist PC view of history intruding.
