The editors have drawn together leading authors in the fields of Chinese, Indian, Buddhist, Islamic, Polynesian, and African philosophy to produce an excellent single-volume survey. The text is divided into three parts: Part 1 provides a historical background in each genre; Part 2 (the longest) deals with major topics in each, such as causation in Chinese philosophy, truth in Indian philosophy, selfhood/personhood in Islamic philosophy, and reality and divinity in Buddhist philosophy; Part 3 is an overview of the state of contemporary philosophy in each genre. The essays are of a uniformly high quality and are accessible even to those with little background in non-Western philosophies. Short but useful bibliographies are attached to most of the essays.
