5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read
If you enjoy exciting African Safari stories you'll like this.

It's not Capstick, or Ruark by any means, but very enjoyable just the same.

3.0 out of 5 stars Amazing adventures
John Boyes lived several lifetimes worth of adventures. I found this book to be entertaining at times but somewhat tedious as well. If you are a collector of safari and colonial era books you should by all means add this title to your collection. I was a bit surprised when I started reading as it was a hard book to get into. But he really did live a life full of adventure. I also found it interesting that a few later African hunters have written stories of their experiences that are told in this tale. Maybe one or two later hunters- one between the wars in particular- took a story or two from Boyes' book thinking it would not be noticed? You need to concentrate when reading his tale but it is well worth it. He mentions in passing things that to me would be a major adventure! I would have liked to have seen a little information about his hunting rifles but many early day hunters don't talk about their gear either. A book well worth owning!
